2024 WA Under-18s State Team Trials Update

U18 GIRLS TRIALS

Due to the number of registrations, the girls’ trial will not be split into two groups. All girls who have nominated will trial together in the same group. Details of the weekend’s trials for the girls are as follows:

Athletes are required to attend both trial days unless you have been granted an exemption for one or both days. A reminder that automatic exemptions are in place for the first round of trials for all athletes who played at the recent U16 or U21 National Championships.

UNDER-18 GIRLS TRIAL 1 GROUP

U18 BOYS TRIALS

Due to the number of registrations, the boys’ trial will be split into two groups. I have attached the group lists to this email. Details of the weekend’s trial for the boys are as follows:

Athletes are required to attend both trial days unless you have been granted an exemption for one or both days. A reminder that automatic exemptions are in place for the first round of trials for all athletes who played at the recent U16 or U21 National Championships.

UNDER-18 BOYS TRIAL 1 GROUPS

ARRIVAL

Athletes are required to arrive 30 minutes prior to the start time of the trial to sign in, receive the bib they have been assigned and complete a full physical warm up prior to the start of the trials. Sign-in tables will be as you walk in the front entrance and will be attended by HockeyWA staff.  Athletes are required to bring hockey equipment including stick, mouthguard and shin guards. HockeyWA will provide equipment such as balls to be used throughout the trials. Athletes should wear appropriate sporting clothing and a numbered bib will be provided.

CHANGES TO TRIAL 2

Please note, there has been a change to the second round of trials next weekend for those who progress. The trial scheduled for Saturday 20 April has been cancelled. The trial scheduled for Sunday 21 April remains unchanged.

This is due to school sport fixtures restarting on Saturday 20 April following school holidays as well as several other factors that HockeyWA have taken into consideration. As detailed below, athletes who progress through Trial 2 into the training squad will take part in a two-week training block prior to the selection of final teams. This process is consistent with the selection process for the U16 and U21 State teams. Trial 2 details will be communicated early next week following this weekend’s first set of trials.

SELECTION PROCESS

All athletes are invited to the trials on both Saturday and Sunday. Following these trials, squads will be reduced. Those selected will be invited through to the next round of trials on Sunday 21 April.

Following the trial on Sunday 21 April, squads will again be reduced to approximately 40. These squads will then complete a two-week training block before a Gold and Black team are selected for each gender on Thursday, 2^nd May.
