Registrations for Hockey WA U16 State Team trials are now open for players wishing to be considered for the 2026 State Under 16 Girls or Boys teams.
HWA will be choosing 2 teams for each gender to travel to the Hockey Australia U16 National Championship held 14th to 21st April in Hobart. Teams will be travelling 12th-22nd April which crosses over the start of Term 2 in WA. If selected, players will be required to obtain the written approval from their school principal to attend.
To be age eligible for the 2026 State Under 16 competition a player must be born on/after 01/01/2010.
Looking ahead to 2026 and beyond Pathways and Performance will start to collate and build key data points on our athletes. This commences with this cohort of athletes, therefore please note that attendance to the first trial is required for all athlete nominations, this includes Goal Keepers and previous State representatives. The 1st Stage of the trial will review fitness testing, skills assessment and match play, with the final 2 stages running as invite only with a focus on match play.
Trial Details:
Trials will be held over 3 consectutive weekends, with genders split into seperate days, each weekend representing a new stage in the trial process:
Stage 1 Saturday 29th Nov or Sunday 30th. All athletes to attend. After this stage a selection of 60 identified players will be invited to the following weekend.
Stage 2, Saturday 6th Dec or Sunday 7th Dec - Invitation only. After this stage an extended squad of 40 will be invited to the final weekend.
Stage 3, Sunday 14th Dec - Invitation Only Extended Squad. After this stage travelling teams and training partners will be annouced.

Annoucements of each stage will be emailed from HWA by close of business the proceeding Thursday. Please note, that as per our Selection Policy, no individual feedback is provided between phase 1 and 2.
Nominations for trials close 5pm Thursday 20th November. Confirmation of your registration and trial details will be emailed to you no later than 5pm Thursday 27th November.
