Elite-level men's talent set to drive sides to glory in Classic outing

Published Fri 25 Mar 2022

With some of Australia’s best hockey players preparing for the Ric Charlesworth Classic – it’s time for a look at who can make a big difference on the pitch. What team will win the men’s competition this year?

Angus Adamson

Youth is one of the biggest advantages for Angus Adamson. This young gun has plenty left to learn, but he's also advanced far beyond his age. After getting the call up to the Kookaburras numbers in the Fortescue Challenge... it is clear he's going to be crucial for the Breakers. He can score goals, something essential in hockey in WA and in Australia as a whole. He’ll be one to watch in the Ric Charlesworth Classic as well as the upcoming Premier League and national tournaments.

Tim Deavin

Tim Deavin boasts a large hockey knowledge, and experience – while still having all the skills. The dual-Olympian will bring leadership and strength to the Suns… the Tassie product also a crucial part of Fremantle’s side in the Premier League competition. He is strong defensively, while also having the skill and composure to play in the midfield. It will be interesting to see where he will line up for the Suns.

Tom Harvie

Tom Harvie may have a brother who plays for the Kookaburras, but he’s a great player all on his own merit. He hails from a long line of hockey royalty – and he’s no stranger to the game. Harvie plays well beyond his years and has a big presence on the field, which is a great addition to the Outbacks. He was named in the 2018 National Futures Program, and has continued to develop since. His height and hockey smarts together are lethal – and will be one to watch this RCC.

Matt Lewis

In 2019 Matt and his family moved to Australia, and one of the reasons behind that was to ensure he was given the best chance to pursue his hockey career. What a decision it was for them. Lewis is a standout in the club competition – and even donned the green and gold colours for the Fortescue Challenge. He’s got handy skills which will be huge for the Highlanders, and could be a key part of a potential title for the side.
