2024/25 Hockey WA State Team Coach Selection Process

In 2024/25, Hockey WA is outlining the State Team Coach selection process for both Indoor and Outdoor competitions. 

If there are any changes to dates or information, Hockey WA will manage these and adjust timeframes accordingly.

 

INDOOR

National Indoor championships period: August 2024 - January 2025

 

Expressions of Interest (EOI)

Expressions of Interest opened 8th September. 

This is now closed for the 2024 competition. 

 

Indoor Advisory Committee (IAG)

This committee was formed to strengthen the commitment to this form of the game. 

The Indoor Advisory Committee collaborates with the Hockey WA Performance and Pathways department to assist with management of indoor.

 

Off field Team Roles Offered

  1. Head Coach
  2. Assistant Coach - by application only
  3. Team Manager
  4. Team Physiotherapist
  5. Selection Panel - separate from coaching staff

 

Coach Selection Process

1.       Nominations open for all Off-field Team positions in September of the previous year for applicants to apply. 

2.       Once the age group nominations close, the Performance and Pathways Manager will collate the results and send the applicant list to the Indoor Advisory Group (IAG). 

3.       IAG to discuss all candidates and recommend the Head Coach and Assistant Coach for each gender to Performance and Pathways department. 

4.       IAG will then shortlist three (3) names per gender age group,  when able to, 7-10 days prior to the first trial. Currently, Hockey WA does not receive as many applicants which enables the IAG to shortlist. 

5.       IAG will meet to discuss the shortlisted candidates and will hold interviews when required to gather additional information. 

6.       IAG will recommend the Head Coach of each gender and will submit potential applicants to fill the role of manager and physio. If the successful coach requests the IAG for assistance, they will assist when required.  

7.       IAG will recommend candidates who have applied for selector roles for age group. The Head Coach will have input into the selectors being appointed. 

8.       IAG to present names to Performance and Pathways Manager and CEO of Hockey WA for final approval 5-7 days prior to announcement. 

9.      Successful Off-field team candidtaes will be contacted for position acceptance of position.  

10.    Hockey WA Media department will announce successful applicants by website and social media channels.

  2. Susan Grieve- WASPS affiliation.
  3. Lauren Austin- Wolves affiliation.
  4. Janine Tate- Melville affiliation.
  5. Shana Pell- UWA/YMCC affiliation.
     

Important Notes:

  • A representative for Hockey WA Performance and Pathways sits in these committee meeting.
  • This committee has a two-year term and in 2024, an Expression of Interest form will allow new members to apply for a seat on this group.  

 

OUTDOOR

National Outdoor competition period:  January 2024 to October 2024

Important Notes:

  • Given the Outdoor National Championships run between the Under-21s starting in March and Under-14s in September/October, the link remains open for several months.

National Championships 2024 Information:

U21s National Championships- March 2024 - 1st Trial: 18th Dec 2023 (nominations opened 14th Nov, Close 28th Nov)

U16s National Championships- April 2024 - 1st Trial: 27th Jan 2024 (nominations Open 1st Week of Jan 2024)

U18s National Championships – July 2024 - 1st Trial 17th April 2024 (nomination Open 1st Week of March)

U14s National Championships- Sept-Oct 2024 - 1st Trial 13th July 2024 (nominations open 1st Week of June)

Indoor National Championships- Jan 2025 - 1st Trial will occur in October 2025. This year is now complete. State teams have been selected and currently in the tournament preparation phase.
