2021 Busselton Masters Hockey Carnival
Published Wed 13 Oct 2021
The Busselton Hockey Association hosted their annual Masters carnival on Friday 8 – Sunday 10 October at the Busselton Hockey Stadium.
This event started in 1990 as a men’s Veterans carnival and in 1999, the women joined in. This year, now 31 years later, the Busselton Hockey Association welcomed 51 teams, competing in 9 separate competitions. Men and Women are entered into Over-35 and Over-45 age divisions which sees players in their 60s and 70s still regularly enjoying the sport.
The National Australian Championships and the Australian Masters Games (which were scheduled to be held in Perth starting the same weekend), were both cancelled. Which resulted in the vast number of teams nominating for this year’s carnival.
Most teams stayed including family and friends. They all indeed socialised and enjoying Busselton and the surrounding area's hospitality over the three days, which see many of the teams returning year after year.
This year our games were played Friday evening on the turf under lights, Saturday, and Sunday. Eight games being played simultaneously for most of the weekend on grass and turf.
The City of Busselton presented the grass at the highest of standards with seven grass field being used over Saturday and Sunday.
We are undoubtedly very proud to have our city invested in our carnival success as much as ourselves. We welcomed spectators to watch some great hockey being played in a relaxed, social atmosphere.
