2024 National Men's Development squad revealed

Published Tue 19 Dec 2023

Four rising WA hockey talents have the opportunity to enhance their training further in 2024 after being named in Hockey Australia's National Men's Development squad.

Cambell Geddes, Tom Harvie, Ollie Higgins and Christian Starkie have been selected into the National development squad for 2024, after strong seasons across various competitions including the 2023 JDH Hockey One season, Hockey WA's 2023 Premier League season, and the FIH Men's Junior World Cup.

Geddes and Higgins come into the Development Squad for the first time off the back of valiant efforts representing the Burras in Kuala Lumpur during the 2023 FIH Men's Junior World Cup, where they placed sixth after falling just short against The Netherlands in a closely contested 5th-6th Playoff.

Geddes' busy year of hockey also included representing the Burras in their second-place effort at the Sultan of Johor Cup, playing for the Perth Thundersticks during the 2023 JDH Hockey One season, and running out for UWA during the 2023 Hockey WA Premier League season.

Despite missing out on the Sultan of Johor Cup due to injury, Higgins spent the Premier League season with Wesley & South Perth Hockey Club.

Dardanup-born Tom Harvie returns to the Development Squad after a solid season with the Perth Thundersticks during Hockey One, where he featured in all of the team's six games for the season, and featured for the Westside Wolves during the Premier League season.

Christian Starkie also returns to the Development Squad after featuring for UWA during the Premier League season.

The National Men's Development squad will also feature interstate talent that featured in the 2023 Premier League season including Davis Atkin (Melville City), Hayden Beltz (Hale), Fred Gray (Hale), Anand Gupte (Whitford), Dylan Martin (Curtin University), Connar Otterbach (Old Guildfordians Mundaring), Daine Richards (Victoria Park Xavier), and Ben Staines (Melville City).

The National Development Squad (NDS) athletes train at their home National Training Centre (NTC) under guidance of their NAPP coaches. Athletes in this squad may be invited to Perth to train with the Kookaburras as part of Visiting Athlete Agreements (VAA).
