2025 Perth Thundersticks Teams announced

Published Thu 07 Aug 2025

As the 2025 Hockey One season approaches, the Perth Thundersticks are set to ignite the competition with a dynamic blend of emerging talent and seasoned experience.

Perth Thundersticks and Hockey WA are thrilled to announce the list of athletes that will form the 2025 Women’s and Men’s teams for the upcoming Hockey One season.

The Women’s team is set to make a powerful return in 2025, with 17 players from the undefeated 2024 championship-winning squad back in action.

Their flawless run last season culminated in securing the Hockey One Women’s Championship trophy, and the team is ready to build on that momentum.

Joining the ranks are five fresh faces who bring depth and skill to the line-up.

Goalkeepers Zoe Newman (NSW Pride) and Cami Vaughan (Tassie Tigers) will strengthen the team’s defence, while former Hockey Club Melbourne player Madi Ratcliffe adds a further boost of experience, and rising local talents Summer Greenway and Grace Powell will also step into the spotlight.

The squad also celebrated the return of Britney DeSilva, who rejoins the Thundersticks after a stint with Adelaide Fire.

Additionally, Sarah Byrnes and Rachel Frusher make their comeback, having last played in the 2023 season.

Women’s Head Coach Stephanie Andrews said the selection process was tough but is excited to watch the mix of experience and youth come together.

“It will be a competitive week to week selection process as we enter the 2025 campaign which is really exciting,” she said.

“We were really looking to balance the squad with versatility, excitement, experience, youth and most importantly people who can buy into the Thundersticks environment that has been built over the last few years.

“All of the girls coming into the squad really bring a great breadth of depth and excitement to the squad which will make it a really competitive group to select from.

“A special mention to Rachel Frusher who returns after having a beautiful baby boy, Lenny.

“She has been a leader in the group for many years, and it is fantastic to have her back around the group paving the way as Candyce Peacock did in 2024, showing that anything is possible with the right support network post-having children.”

Thirteen players from the 2024 squad are set to return for the Men’s team in 2025, continuing to build on the foundations from last season.

With player development remaining a key focus, the team is excited to introduce 11 new additions to the line-up.

Joining from Adelaide Fire are Luke Anderson and Zach Rakkas, bringing valuable experience and energy.

They’ll be joined by promising young talents Hamish Adamson, Patrick Andrew, Hunter Banyard, Ethan Boucher, James Cunningham, Ian Grobbelaar, Zed Kearnan, Jeremy Mayne, and Matthew van Selm – all eager to make their mark.

Adding depth to the forward line is Liam Flynn, who returns to the squad after last appearing for the Thundersticks in 2023.

Men’s Head Coach Stephen Davies said he was thrilled to continue building on the momentum of a promising young squad as they prepare for the upcoming Hockey One season.

“I’m excited to see this year’s group rise to the level of Hockey One,” he said.

“We know the talent is there so now we just need to get them up to speed in a high-intensity training environment.

“One of the main things we were looking for when we put this group together was getting athletes that put in the effort and consistently put the team before themselves.

Our training program last year was incredibly effective, and the team was united both on and off the field.

“I’m eager to see how our new additions adapt to this environment and take advantage of the opportunities that come their way throughout the season.

It’s fantastic to have Liam Flynn back in the squad.

“He’s a proven goal scorer and brings a wealth of experience that will be instrumental in guiding our younger players.

“We’re confident he’ll thrive in this environment and enjoy his hockey.”
