2026 Fuel to Go & Play Junior Club Championships 7-9 wrap
Published Mon 13 Jul 2026
The next generation of WA hockey talent is taking centre stage as the Fuel to Go & Play Junior Club Championships return for 2026.
Teams from across the state converged on Perth Hockey Stadium, with the Junior 7-9 competitions launching an exciting fortnight of junior hockey action.
The Girls J7-9 tournament opened proceedings from Monday 6 July to Wednesday 8 July, before the Boys J7-9 competition took over from Wednesday 8 July to Friday 10 July.
JUNIOR 7-9 GIRLS
Fifteen teams contested the Girls competition, battling through pool matches on the opening day before split into two Divisions based on their results.
Division 1 featured a closely contested final between YMCC and Busselton Hockey Association 2.
With neither team able to find the back of the net during regular play, the match went to a shootout, where YMCC secured a 4–2 victory after the scores remained locked at 0-0.
YMCC enjoyed a strong tournament, finishing on top of Pool B without defeat before progressing through the Division 1 rounds to earn their place in the final.
Busselton 2 also impressed throughout the competition, remaining unbeaten on their path to the championship match and creating a memorable contest for players and spectators alike.

The Division 2 final was another close encounter, with Melville overcoming Eastern Goldfields Hockey Association 1-0.
A goal late in the first half proved enough to separate the two sides in an enjoyable contest between two deserving finalists.
After finishing fourth in Pool B, Melville found form in the Division 2 rounds to secure a spot in the final and ultimately claim the title.
Eastern Goldfields also put together a strong campaign, showing great determination throughout the tournament to earn their place in the decider.

JUNIOR 7-9 BOYS
The Boys competition featured 22 teams, which contested the pool stage before being divided into three divisions based on their performances.
In Division 1, YMCC edged out Victoria Park 2 by a single goal in a thrilling final. Both teams enjoyed unbeaten runs throughout the tournament, reaching the decider without suffering a loss.
YMCC recorded two wins and two draws in Pool B before carrying that momentum into the Division 1 round-robin stage, where they collected three wins and a draw. Victoria Park 2 was equally impressive, finishing Pool D with three wins and a draw before replicating that record in the Division 1 round-robin matches to secure their place in the final.

Division 2 also delivered a dramatic finish, with Geraldton 1 overcoming Eastern Goldfields thanks to a last-minute winner.
Geraldton’s campaign began with a mixed set of results in Pool D, where they recorded one win, two draws and a loss to qualify for Division 2. Once there, they found their rhythm, claiming three wins from four matches to progress to the final. Eastern Goldfields followed a similar path, posting one win, two draws and a loss during the pool stage before producing a dominant Division 2 campaign, winning all four round-robin matches to book their place in the decider.

In Division 3, Busselton claimed the title with a 2-0 victory over Roe Districts in the final.
After a challenging pool stage that yielded a draw and three losses, Busselton turned their fortunes around in Division 3, advancing to the final unbeaten through the round-robin matches. Roe Districts also endured a difficult start to the tournament, recording two draws and two losses in the pool stage, but responded strongly to remain unbeaten in the Division 3 round-robin matches and secure a place in the final.

The Fuel to Go & Play Club Championships continues with the J10-12 competitions from Monday 13 July to Friday 17 July.
