Hockey WA is excited to unveil a bumper season calendar for 2022, full of key tournaments and events for hockey and sports fans alike, headlined by an action-packed Premier League schedule featuring some of the world’s best hockey players.

The jam-packed schedule kicks off in late March, with Hockey WA’s flagship pre-season tournament, the Ric Charlesworth Classic, returning for another instalment of high-level hockey featuring some of WA’s most elite talent from March 25 to April 3.

Hockey WA’s Premier League – one of the world’s best domestic competitions – returns on April 12, with clubs kick-starting their journey to challenge for glory.

The Premier League features key rounds of celebration and significance this season – our action-packed ANZAC Round fixture in the Premier League will see 11 clashes across two days, with three major matches between Fremantle Cockburn and Reds in the men’s and Vic Park and WASPs in the men’s and women’s played on ANZAC Day.

Members will continue supporting Women’s Health on 6 to 8 May across all competitions and divisions in WA in the Women’s Health Week round; the Men’s Health Week round will commence on 14 June.

The Premier League will hit the road for another year on 21 May, with this year’s Regional Round heading to Geraldton; two men’s and women’s sides will make the trip to compete in a blockbuster double-header for fans in the region to feast on.

The NAIDOC Week Indigenous round will kick off from July 2 in the Premier League, with grounds across Perth and WA celebrating Australia’s and hockey’s rich indigenous history with key fixtures on offer for fans.

On 26 to 28 August, Wear it Purple round celebrates LGBTIQ+ diversity, inclusion and pride in hockey in WA. Wear it Purple strives to foster supportive, safe, empowering and inclusive environments for rainbow young people.

The next generation of star WA hockey players will get the opportunity to hit the field when the junior season starts on 30 April.

A key highlight every year for WA hockey players from across the regions of WA is making the trip to Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University to compete in the CBH Group Country Championships.

This year, the women will kick off proceedings from 17-19 June, with the men competing on the following weekend of 24-26 June in a bumper two weeks of hockey featuring regional WA’s best talent.

The Fuel To Go & Play Junior Club Championships will be held from 4 July for 7/8s and 11 July for 9/10s, providing an excellent opportunity for regional teams to pit their wares against teams from the metropolitan area.

September presents one of the biggest dates on the WA hockey Calendar, with Hockey WA’s Grand Final Day at Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University on 17 September providing historic moments as teams fight for glory.

Rounding out the hockey-filled year is the Hockey WA Junior Indoor Club Championships on October 5, with the Indoor season to follow.

This year’s schedule will look to please, with Hockey WA’s General Manager of Game and Community Development, Shayley McGurk Davy, stating that Hockey WA is looking to present a memorable year of hockey action.

“We’re really excited to be able to improve on our events this year and provide an amazing product for die-hard fans to newcomers to the sport to enjoy and take part in,” McGurk Davy says.
