CEO Update - December 2021
Published Fri 24 Dec 2021
To everyone across the wider Western Australian hockey community,
We would like to thank you for your contribution across 2021. Despite the myriad challenges we faced throughout the year, in particular those related to the COVID-19 pandemic, together we have continued to raise the profile of our sport and deliver excellent outcomes across the state. Thank you for your support, involvement and energy across a challenging but incredibly satisfying season.
A few of our highlights and milestones from across 2021:
- Successfully delivering and improving on key Hockey WA tournaments and competitions, including the All Flags Premier League, Ric Charlesworth Classic, Future Thundersticks Classic, CBH Group Country Championships, Fuel To Go & Play Junior Championships and a revised, high-level indoor competition at a new venue, HBF Stadium.
- Introducing a new Masters tournament – the Bevan George and Kobie McGurk Cups – to provide high-level competition play for some of WA’s most experienced and decorated men’s and women’s players
- Delivering the FIH Pro League fixtures between Australia and New Zealand at Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University, with a huge turn-out on the Saturday before the Sunday lockdown measures saw the match played behind closed doors
- Increasing participation in schools across regional WA through delivering the CSBP Wheatbelt Schools Carnivals
- Significant turf and facility upgrades, including two new turfs in Geraldton, turf and light upgrades in Rockingham, new lights in Mandurah and Busselton and investment into Perth Hockey Stadium facilities.
Together, hockey in Western Australia has taken giant strides in 2021 and we’re excited about what we can achieve off the back of this in 2022.
On another note, the offices here at Hockey WA will be closed over the Christmas break until Monday 10 January.
From all of us here at Hockey WA, we wish you a safe and enjoyable holiday season and look forward to a busy, exciting 2022 for hockey in Western Australia!
