CEO Update I March 2022
Published Fri 04 Mar 2022
It’s almost time to hit the hockey field!
With the hockey season fast approaching, I’d like to give an update regarding the COVID-19 impacts on hockey going forward.
With the current public health measures put in place by the WA State Government, unfortunately for the time being, no spectators are allowed at community sport venues unless they are a parent or guardian of a player. Although this is disappointing for our passionate members, the challenges are offset by the fact our season can still commence and our members can continue to pick up a stick and play the sport they love.
Capacity limits are currently in place for stadiums, with Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University falling within this category. For key events, such as the Fortescue Challenge and the Ric Charlesworth Classic, 50% of the seated capacity can attend. Further information regarding seating to these events will be communicated shortly.
Lastly, As part of the Hockey WA COVID action plan, clubs are asked to report any COVID-19 positive cases to Hockey WA. While in most cases there is nothing we can do outside of the normal protocols, which most people will be aware of, it is important that we ensure that Hockey WA is notified at the earliest possible opportunity by emailing the General Manager Business Operations at Hockey WA - graeme.hall@hockeywa.org.au.
Now – let’s get into the hockey!
Some of WA’s - and Australia’s - most elite hockey talent will hit the field in the Ric Charlesworth Classic and the Fortescue Challenge this month.
With over 220 players nominating for this year’s Ric Charlesworth Classic, it’s fantastic to see some of WA hockey’s best get behind our flagship pre-season tournament.
The Fortescue Challenge will see the newly-finalised Kookaburras squad compete against one another in a three-match series that will emulate international competition play.
I urge everyone to keep their eyes peeled on our website, as well as social media, and support our upcoming events and WA athletes.
Until next month, stay safe and I’ll see you at the hockey!
