CEO Update I May 2022
Published Fri 06 May 2022
What a season it has been so far!
All of our competitions are underway, with the junior competitions commencing last week. It’s been fantastic to see the level of competition out there across the state – the strength of hockey in WA is ever-improving! A heartfelt thanks to all our players, coaches, parents and volunteers on the massive amount of work in preparation for season commencement and your ongoing support throughout the year.
We are right into the thick of it with our men’s and women’s Premier League seasons, with some thrilling contests across the board thus far. It’s been very exciting to deliver our new broadcast for this year. You can watch all our broadcasts live and on demand here. In some more exciting news for our sport, Premier League hockey which reach the television screens of those across Australia on NITV. A full schedule is soon to be released, with already broadcast matches available on SBS On Demand.
The hockey faithful in the Mid West will have the opportunity to experience high level hockey in our yearly Regional Round (Insert link) from Thursday 19 May. A number of development courses and clinics will be on offer and a key Premier League double-header between the men’s and women’s Reds and Hale sides will be broadcast live from the Geraldton hockey Association on Saturday 21 May. The Regional Round also marks the official opening of the Geraldton Hockey Association’s new turf project – an exciting development that bolsters the strength of hockey in the Mid West.
On a pleasing note, all the indicators early on this year point towards our membership returning to pre-COVID-19 numbers. This is significant and worthy of celebration – it’s great to see hockey in WA returning to full strength after a number of interrupted years.
As the season progresses, I urge everyone to keep an eye on the Hockey WA website - there are a number of exciting developments to come across the year!
Until next month, stay safe and I’ll see you at the hockey!
