CEO Update I November
Published Thu 04 Nov 2021
It’s been another big few weeks in hockey around the state – and there’s a lot more in store for 2021!
Congratulations to the WA Masters for the staging of the inaugural Bevan George and Kobie McGurk Cups, for our men’s and women’s Masters players aged between 30 and 50. With a strong legends contingent including former Hockeyroos and Kookaburras, plus extensive coverage and live streaming through The West, there was a big buzz around the tournament – and the action didn’t disappoint! Strong crowds were drawn to the action across the nine-day period, with a bumper final weekend finishing the inaugural competitions in style. Congratulations to the Outbacks women and the Suns men sides for their triumphs – we look forward to staging the event again, in consultation with WA Masters, in the not-too-distant future. There’s a heap of coverage on the tournament on our channels, including on our page on Facebook.
This month’s action is headlined by another tournament, the Future Thundersticks Classic. Following the successful staging of the first event in 2020, the 2021 Future Thundersticks Classic will also be live-streamed via TheWest.com.au – with the action taking place across Sunday 14, Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 November at Perth Hockey Stadium. The event sees our Hockey WA Under-13s State teams and teams from the Perth Thundersticks 14s Academy clash at Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University – entry is free. I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge Michael Henderson for his contribution to our sport. Michael yesterday retired as the President of Hockey WA. He has and will continue to be an ambassador for hockey. I would also like to welcome Katie Flanagan as our new President.
Until next month, see you at the hockey!
