COVID-19 UPDATE - PERTH HOCKEY STADIUM
Published Tue 10 May 2022
Coaches, players, officials, and venue staff have done a fantastic job getting us to round five of the season despite the impacts of COVID-19. Reports indicate we have a few weeks ahead of us where the pandemic will have a significant impact.
As a state sporting association, venue operator and competition managers, Hockey WA has planned and scenario tested many situations and likely occurrences; as part of this process, we have sought to put in place as many alternatives as possible to ensure that the competition is not interrupted. However, despite the planning and everything around likely occurrences, we will constantly be tested with something else. These occurrences are very likely to be outside of our control.
The past few weeks have been particularly challenging regarding the appointment of umpires. Key umpires who can officiate our premier leagues are hard to find without the challenges of COVID. Similarly, some teams are requesting re-schedules because several players are testing positive for COVID.
This weekend we did experience a member of your venue team testing positive early on Sunday morning. Unfortunately, it is not improbable that another venue café or bar staff may suffer the same fate over the coming weeks.
We would like to formally thank the parents from YMCC and WASPs who willingly assumed the role of scoreboard operator and timekeeper after a crash course at the controls. Admittedly, it was not ideal, but the parents' actions were greatly appreciated.
If in future clubs experience any similar occurrences, such as the venue not being open, please understand that things may be outside of everyone's control. At Perth Hockey Stadium, we can control essential elements of the venue remotely, and as long a team can access the venue, we can ensure that with the help of others, fixtures can commence on time.
Please note that if you experience any problems, do not hesitate to contact relevant Hockey WA staff:
