CSBP Fertilisers' support fuels Hockey WA's Regional Carnival success

Published Thu 06 Jun 2024

More than 200 young hockey enthusiasts had an unforgettable day out at a recent regional carnival hosted by Hockey WA and supported via the CSBP Fertilisers community investment program.

The Geraldton CSBP Hockey Carnival unfolded at the Geraldton Hockey Stadium on Thursday 30 May, with participation from 21 teams representing eight schools across the Mid West. Since 2021, CSBP has been a steadfast partner of Hockey WA, offering financial assistance to facilitate various hockey carnivals and school clinics across regional WA annually.

Throughout the carnival, schools engaged in a round-robin hockey tournament categorized into three pools: gold, blue, and white. Geraldton Grammar School showcased standout performances, securing victories in both the gold and blue pools. Geraldton Christian College also demonstrated prowess, clinching the top spot in the white pool.

The students' excitement peaked during a skills activation session led by Perth Thundersticks rising star Brodee Foster.

Hockey WA Community & Growth Manager—Regional Associations and Programs, Kristen Jerkovich, said they were incredibly grateful for the success of the carnival and CSBP's continued support.

“This year’s carnival received massive support from schools in the Mid West region, featuring 21 teams – which is more than double the number of teams we had the last time we visited Geraldton in 2022,” she said.

“It was also fantastic to see teams travel from as far as Mingenew and Carnamah to take part in the carnival, making this year’s event even more memorable.

“Hockey WA is looking forward to upcoming carnivals and our continued partnership with CSBP.

CSBP Fertilisers General Manager, Ryan Lamp, said CSBP was pleased to support initiatives that make a tangible difference in regional Western Australia.

“CSBP is proud to support grassroots sports in the regional communities that we operate in, and we thank Hockey WA for delivering a memorable regional carnival that was enjoyed by more than 200 hockey players from across the Mid West,” he said.

“Events like this give young players, some who may never have picked up a hockey stick before, the chance to develop their physical and social skills in a fun and safe team environment. They also provide more experienced players with the opportunity to learn from some of the state’s leading coaches and hockey players.

“We look forward to Hockey WA delivering further regional carnivals and clinics in Esperance, Northam and Narrogin later this year with CSBP’s support.”
