Enhanced indoor season impresses with national stars on board
Published Thu 11 Nov 2021
High-level hockey has continued to impress in Perth this post-season, with Hockey WA’s Indoor Hockey competitions proving to be a fast-paced, exciting spectacle, with a plethora of elite-level talent picking up the indoor sticks this season.
This year, the Indoor competitions have been enhanced, with a move to HBF Stadium attracting high-quality players across the state, strengthening the competition play.
Many current and past Kookaburras and Hockeyroos, as well as national-level indoor players, have partaken in this year’s season and have provided scintillating contests and results.
The likes of Hockeyroos Amy Lawton and Kaitlin Nobbs, Kookaburras Daniel Beale, Nathan Ephraums and Blake Govers as well as Australian Indoor World Cup Squad members such as Ben Rennie, Ben Staines, Lauren Austin, Lizzie Duguid and more has provided Indoor players across the state the opportunity to compete with some of the best in the World.
Hockey WA General manager of Talent Development & Asian Engagement, Dean Evans, says that the newly enhanced competition is a big step forward for Indoor Hockey in WA.
“It’s outstanding to see the reinvigoration of our Indoor Hockey Competitions and High Performance programs in WA with the new venue partnerships at HBF Stadium Claremont and ECU Mount Lawley,” Evans says.
“The calibre of players and increase in participation reflects the commitment to provide our hockey community with a quality member experience and augers well for growing this exciting code of our sport.”
The men’s competition has provided exciting results across the board, with the Melville (Maroon) team, led by Ben Staines, scoring a total of 31 goals in just three rounds of action.
Melville (Maroon) leads the men’s competition after an unbeaten run thus far, with North Coast Raiders sitting at the top in the women’s competition on seven points, just clear of the Melville (Maroon) women’s side on six.
