Future stars set for big stage hit out
Published Mon 01 Nov 2021
The next generation of budding hockey stars in Western Australia will have the chance to battle it out on the Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University field from Sunday 14 November in the Future Thundersticks Classic.
The Future Thundersticks Classic provides high-level tournament competition play for WA’s most talented young players in a format much like Hockey WA’s Ric Charlesworth Classic, to assist in further development for the state’s next crop of hockey heroes.
The tournament this year, much like previous, provides WA’s elite junior-level players an opportunity to compete at a high level in lieu of National Championships delayed due to COVID-19.
The tournament features four male and four female sides, comprising of Hockey WA’s Under-13s State teams and teams from the Perth Thundersticks 14s Academy; teams include the Breakers and Highlanders, with inspiration taken from the Ric Charlesworth Classic, as well as the State Teams traditional monikers of the Storm and Lightning.
On Saturday 20 November, the Perth Thundersticks men’s and women’s squads will face off against their State Under-21 counterparts in a feast of hockey for our young stars and fans in attendance, with the women’s kicking off at 3:00pm and the men’s at 6:00pm.
For the first time ever, the 2021 Future Thundersticks Classic will be live-streamed through The West Australian, providing hockey fans around the state the opportunity to watch and support our future athletes on the big stage.
Entry to all fixtures at Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University for the Future Thundersticks Classic is free.
