Geraldton re-vamp sees fields reach World-class standards

Published Thu 09 Dec 2021

Hockey in the Mid-West region of Western Australia has been given an added boost ahead of next year’s season, with two brand new, high-level turfs installed at the Geraldton Hockey Association.

The two new fields by Polytan will see a great improvement to Geraldton’s previous facilities; field two prior to the installation was a bitumen base that had not had a turf installed for 12 years, with field one’s pitch in need of an upgrade as well.

With the fields ready to go ahead of next year, the result will improve the quality of hockey life for those in the region competing, as well as elevating the Geraldton Hockey Association’s venue to one of the premier venues amongst Geraldton’s Eighth Street Sporting Precinct - a key pillar for sport in regional WA.

One of Hockey WA’s key strategic pillars is the investment in regional engagement. The project that has materialised in Geraldton is a result of the hard work by the association with support from Hockey WA.

The transition from one turf to having access to two playing surfaces will allow players of all ages and abilities to play on a World-class surface.

Hockey WA are appreciative that the Geraldton Hockey Association, the City of Greater Geraldton and the State Government have been able to work collaboratively to allow this major project happen.
