H1 Match Report: Round 7 – Perth Thundersticks v NSW Pride

The Perth Thundersticks women have put an end to NSW Pride’s undefeated streak, sealing a thrilling 6–5 win, driven by Madi Ratcliffe’s incredible six-goal, while the men fought hard but fell 2–1 in a tight contest.


Men

NSW Pride held firm in a tense final quarter, with the Perth Thundersticks Men’s fighting hard but unable to find the equalizer as the match finished 2–1.
The opening quarter was tightly contested, with the Thundersticks pushing forward aggressively while NSW applied relentless defensive pressure. 
Though the Thundersticks earned a penalty corner, they couldn’t convert despite repeated attempts. 
The play was end-to-end, with both teams battling hard, yet neither managing to break the deadlock in an evenly matched start.
The even contest continued with both sides creating chances. 
NSW Pride broke through via a penalty corner goal from Blake Govers, then doubled their lead with another PC conversion by Govers. 
The Thundersticks kept pressing hard, but NSW’s defence held firm, taking a 2–0 lead into halftime.
The Thundersticks kept fighting to stay in the contest during the third quarter while NSW maintained strong pressure. 
After a long stalemate, the Thundersticks finally found the net via Brodee Foster to close the gap. 
NSW still held the advantage, leading 2–1 at three-quarter time.
The final term remained evenly contested as the Thundersticks fought hard to level the score. 
Both sides applied heavy pressure, with Hunter Banyard pulling off key saves to keep the Thundersticks in the game. 
NSW continued their strong press and ultimately held on to secure a 2–1 victory.

Women

The Perth Thundersticks Women’s team has secured the last spot in the ONE Active Hockey One Finals, with Madi Ratcliffe stealing the show with a six-goal haul.
An explosive start saw the Thundersticks strike early with two penalty corner goals from Madi Ratcliffe.
NSW responded with a PC goal through Chelsea Holmes and a field goal from Grace Stewart, though the conversion went wide.
The Thundersticks earned another PC and Ratcliffe completed a stunning first-quarter hat-trick.
After a brief stalemate, the Thundersticks held a 3–2 lead at the break.
The contest stayed tight and evenly matched, with both sides locked in a stalemate until NSW broke through via a penalty corner goal from Alana Kavanagh to level the scores at 3–3 heading into halftime.
The back-and-forth battle continued as NSW regained the lead with a field goal and conversion from Grace Young.
A penalty stroke opportunity for NSW was denied after Zoe Newman’s brilliant save, keeping the Thundersticks in the contest.
The Thundersticks hit back with a penalty corner goal from Madi Ratcliffe on a clever variation and conversion, securing top spot in the Women’s Goal Scoring tally.
Despite NSW mounting pressure late, the Thundersticks earned multiple PC opportunities but couldn’t capitalize, leaving the scores locked at 5–5 heading into the final quarter.
The final term remained fiercely contested as both teams piled on the pressure. PTX broke through with another penalty corner goal from Madi Ratcliffe—her sixth of the match—securing a thrilling 6–5 victory and booking their spot in the finals.
