Connections between Western Australia and Asia through the sport of hockey is set to be given an extra boost thanks to the newest member of the Hockey WA team.

Graham Reid joins the Hockey WA team as the new General Manager for Asian Engagement and Special Projects.

Reid brings a wealth of experience to the Hockey WA fold, as a former Kookaburra and high-level coach in Australia, the Netherlands and India.

Reid also brings his coaching expertise from the Western Australian Institute of Sport, working closely with Western Australia’s elite hockey athletes.

Reid said he was very excited to be joining the Hockey WA team and continue his longstanding involvement with the sport of hockey.

“I have been involved with hockey in Western Australia since 1984,” he said.

“I was part of the inaugural AIS setup, coming originally from Queensland, and have since been involved with the national program and several clubs at all levels.

“Western Australian hockey is entering a very exciting period, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it.

“The confirmation of the Hockey Australia High Performance program staying in Perth, coupled with the fantastic new world-class stadium, presents a wealth of opportunities.

“With this exciting development comes the need for new projects to ensure Hockey WA can provide the facilities, competitions, and opportunities for everyone who plays this great game.

“I am looking forward to the opportunity to help this happen.”

"We are very excited to welcome Graham to the Hockey WA team,” Hockey WA CEO Fabian Ross said.

“With his expertise, our relationship with hockey organisations in Asia will only continue to strengthen.”

As the former Elite Performance Manager and Chief Coach of the Indian Men's hockey team, Reid led a series of transformational changes, which led to the team winning its first Olympic medal in 41 years and improving their world ranking from 6th to 3rd.

Reid has also played an integral part in coaching teams that have won five Champions Trophy gold medals, two World Cup gold medals, and a Commonwealth Games gold medal.
