Hockey WA receives Silver Level certification from Pride in Sport

Hockey WA is proud to announce that the organisation has achieved Silver Level certification for the Pride in Sport Index by Pride in Sport, recognising the ongoing commitment to work in the LGBTQI+ space.

The Pride in Sport Index is the first and only benchmarking instrument specifically designed to assess the inclusion of people with diverse sexualities and genders within Australian sporting organisation and codes.

Hockey WA’s Silver Level certification highlights the commitment to ensuring that hockey in Western Australia is an inclusive sport that is welcoming of members from all backgrounds.

The certification also shows an improvement after previously receiving Bronze Level certification in 2023.

“We are incredibly proud as an organisation to receive the Pride in Sport silver certification,” Hockey WA General Manager of Game, Community Development & Pathways Shayley McGurk-Davy said.

“Achieving silver aligns with our continued commitment to work in the LGBTQI+ space, and we are thrilled the ongoing work in close collaboration with Hockey Australia and other parties to ensure our sport is inclusive continues to be recognised.

“It just goes to show that hockey is truly the sport for all, and we are continuing to lead the way in creating welcoming and inclusive environments for people of all backgrounds.”

Hockey WA is one of eight hockey organisations and clubs receiving recognition for leadership in the inclusion space, alongside Hockey Australia & Hockey ACT – who achieved Gold Level certification, Perth Pythons Hockey Club & Sydney’s Bentstix Hockey Club – who also achieved Silver Level certification, and Hockey Victoria, Hockey NSW & Hockey Queensland – who achieved Bronze Level certification.

Hockey WA would also like to congratulate Greta Hayes, who was named LGBTQ Role Model of the Year, along with Davis Atkin for his nomination for the same award.
