Hockey WA stands with the LGBTIQ+ community
Published Tue 31 May 2022
Dear Members, Clubs & Associations,
Hockey WA is committed to providing a safe, fun and inclusive environment for all people, including those of diverse sexualities and genders. Being an inclusive sport not only reflects our core values, it also reflects the diversity of our local communities.
To celebrate our diverse hockey family, Hockey WA is holding a Pride Event, in partnership with the Perth Pythons, Westside Wolves and Hockey Australia, at Lemnos Field on Sunday 12 June, to celebrate our LGBTIQ+ community and encourage those to get involved with hockey, a sport that welcomes people of all backgrounds.
The event, which is free to attend, will feature appearances from Kookaburras and Hockeyroos, fun and games for the family, LGBTIQ+ community stalls and a Premier League double-header between the men’s and women’s Westside Wolves and WASPs sides.
Hockey WA has a zero-tolerance to any form of bullying, harassment and/or vilification towards people with diverse sexualities and/or genders. This includes forms of homophobia, biphobia and/or transphobia.
We're passionate about helping people lead happy, healthy and active lives. Hockey WA celebrates diversity of sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, intersex status, ability, skill, cultural background, ethnicity, location, religious or political beliefs or life stage and welcomes everyone, exactly as they are.
Hockey WA is also committed and proud to celebrate diversity days, for our hockey pride community in WA. Diversity Days are all about celebrating and honouring LGBTIQ+ days of significance and increasing awareness of the LGBTIQ+ community’s rich and fabulous diversity, which I encourage all members to celebrate and get involved with at your club. Find out more here.
I encourage all members to get involved with our Pride event and continue to celebrate our diverse community which makes this sport so great. The Pride event is sure to be a fantastic day out for all. More information here.
Kind regards,
Fabian
