Published Wed 15 Dec 2021

Telethon and Hockey WA have joined forces, with the hockey community across the state to raise funds and awareness for Western Australia’s favourite charity, Hockey WA’s new Official Community Partner.

The hockey community’s support of Telethon will stretch across 2022 and 2023, with a range of branding and marketing opportunities provided to the charity, in addition to a range of fundraising opportunities.

Telethon will have a significant presence at Hockey WA’s Ric Charlesworth Classic, alongside an official Telethon Round in the All Flags Premier League season and fundraising throughout the year.

Hockey WA CEO Fabian Ross said he was delighted to partner with Telethon.

“It’s terrific to have Telethon join Hockey WA as our Official Community Partner – it’s a wonderful cause and I know the hockey community will support it wholeheartedly,” Ross said.

“We’re very excited about the partnership and look forward to our involvement with Telethon throughout the year, following of course their record result in fundraising in 2021.”

Telethon General Manager Mark McCrory said that Telethon looks forward to working with Hockey WA to further help and support young Western Australian children and young families who need the support the most.

“Telethon belongs to the community of Western Australia who over five decades have generously donates $457 million to Telethon to support those WA children and young families who need our help most,” McCrory said.

“We are grateful that Hockey WA have chosen Telethon as their official community partner and we are looking forward to working together with the WA Hockey community and all the grassroots clubs to fundraise and help even more kids in WA into the future.”

Hockey WA General Manger Commercial Operations and Marketing, Nicholas Janzen, said the partnership would benefit the hockey community and the charity in a number of ways.

“It’s sensational to be able to support such a great range of charities through Telethon – it’s such a worthy cause,” Janzen said.

“Partnering with Telethon, in addition to raising much-needed funds for the charity throughout the state, will also provide a range of benefits for the sport, further raising its profile and presence across the state.

“We’re incredibly proud to link with Telethon and will keenly be fundraising across the year for the huge number of great charities Telethon supports.”

The Western Australian hockey community’s support of Telethon has already commenced, with more than $3800 raised through gate takings at the 2021 Ric Charlesworth Classic and Hockey WA’s Grand Final Day.

Hockey stars including home-grown hero Karri Somerville, plus Kookaburras and Hockeyroos representatives such as Eddie Ockenden, Jeremy Hayward, Brooke Peris, Jane Claxton, Jake Harvie and Amy Lawton, featured in October’s Telethon Family Festival, presented by Coles, and the Telethon broadcast.
