Kookaburras set to host India in thrilling August Hockey Festival

WA hockey fans are in for a spectacular showcase this August as the Kookaburras gear up to take on the Indian Men’s National Team in a four-match series, supported by AIBA and GSWA. 

The series will kick off on Friday 15 August, marking a special occasion as it coincides with India’s Independence Day. Fans can look forward to not only world-class hockey but also to vibrant cultural celebrations honouring this significant day. 

The action will continue for three more fixtures, with additional matches to be held on Saturday 16, Tuesday 19 and Thursday 21 August, all at Perth Hockey Stadium. 

Hockey WA CEO Graham Reid shared his excitement at bringing another international event to Western Australia’s calendar, one that connects our local game with nations beyond our borders. 

“We are thrilled to be able to welcome the Indian Men’s National Team to Western Australia for what promises to be an exciting series,” said Reid. 

“This event not only showcases world-class hockey but also celebrates the cultural ties between Australia and India and strengthens an ongoing relationship between two major hockey nations.”  

Adding to the excitement, aspiring young players will have a unique chance to learn from some of the world’s best. 

A Junior Hockey Clinic, featuring the stars of the Indian Men’s National Team, will be held at Hale Hockey Club on Sunday 17 August. This is a rare opportunity for juniors to meet and train alongside elite international athletes, gaining skills, insights and inspiration first-hand. Participants can register for the clinic here. 

This series promises to deliver not just top-tier hockey but also a celebration of cultural connection and community spirit, highlighting the shared love of the game between two proud hockey nations.
