Newcastle ready to host best Australian Under 15 hockey talent

Published Tue 05 Apr 2022

Everything is in readiness as the Newcastle International Hockey Centre prepares to play host to this year’s Hockey Australia (HA) U15 Championships that begins on Thursday.

64 of WA's best up and coming talent will fly the flag for the four Western Australian sides across both the boys and girls divisions.

A day after the Australian U18 Championships begin in Cairns, the cream of the hockey crop at Under 15 level from every state and territory will participate on the national stage in Newcastle from 7-13 April.

Apart from playing for state/territory pride, the U15 Championships serves as a step in many players, coaches and officials’ journey to the national level.

“After these players have been starved of opportunities to compete regularly in the past two years, a lot of work has gone into ensuring this event goes ahead successfully,” said Hockey Australia CEO David Pryles.

“This is both from an enjoyment and safety perspective, particularly around the preventative COVID measures that have been put in place.”

“We hope everyone who attends has a positive and memorable experience at the outstanding hockey facility in Newcastle and we thank Destination NSW for supporting this event.”

The HA U15 Championships was only one of two national events held in 2021 due to COVID. NSW State won both the Boys and Girls competitions at the 2021 Championships.

The 2022 Hockey Australia U15 Championships are made possible thanks to Destination NSW.
