Perth Thundersticks Academy to offer training camps during April school holidays

Looking for something to do during the April school holidays? Want to brush up on your hockey skills before the season starts?

The Perth Thundersticks Academy is introducing a series of short and intensive specialised training camps, open to players within the year 7 to 11 school year groups wanting to develop their skills outside of club development programs.

The training camps will run for three days each week of the school holidays out of the Academy's North hub at Troy Pickard Hockey Centre, and the South hub at Lakelands Hockey & Sporting Facility.

Participants will have the chance to develop their skills with specialist coaches provided by Hockey WA, as well as players competing in the Premier League, with a choice of a general training camp or a specialised goal scoring/goal keeping camp.


TRAINING CAMP

REGISTER FOR THE SOUTH HUB

Comprising of three, two-hour sessions, this Training Camp will primarily focus on:

  • Essential stick and ball skill refinement
  • Mini Games with a focus on close decision making strategies
  • Specialist skills such as goal scoring, penalty corner development and shootouts
  • Match preparation and Post-Match recovery
  • Postional education and expectations

Participants registering for the North Hub will be able to choose between two sets of dates,, with Camp 1 taking place from Tuesday 2 April to Thursday 4 April, and Camp 2 taking place from Wednesday 10 April to Friday 12 April.

The South Hub will have one camp taking place from Wednesday 10 April to Friday 12 April.


GOAL SCORING/GOAL KEEPING CLINIC

Comprising of three, two-hour sessions, the Goal Scoring/Goal Keeping Clinic will focus on the following:

Goal Scoring

  • 7-Yard Area/Outside the 10
  • Shot selection/decision making
  • Circle movement/leading

Goal Keeping

  • Live shooting drills
  • Footwork and positioning

Participants registering for the North Hub will be able to choose between two sets of dates,, with Camp 1 taking place from Tuesday 2 April to Thursday 4 April, and Camp 2 taking place from Wednesday 10 April to Friday 12 April.

The South Hub will have one camp taking place from Wednesday 10 April to Friday 12 April.
