Perth Thundersticks Team Selection: Round 3 vs NSW Pride

Published Thu 22 Oct 2026

The Perth Thundersticks hit the road once again this weekend, with the Women chasing a third straight win while the Men welcome two new faces.

Men’s

As the Perth Thundersticks Men look to continue building momentum in their third consecutive match on the road, two new faces have been named to travel to Sydney for Saturday’s clash with NSW Pride.

Experienced campaigner Flynn Ogilvie is set to make his long-awaited return to Hockey One action, while exciting young prospect Max Nelson will make his debut for the Thundersticks.

Ogilvie returns to the Hockey One stage for the first time since the 2023 season, ironically against his former side.

A two-time Hockey One champion with NSW Pride, he was part of their title-winning campaigns in 2019 and 2022, the latter coming against the Thundersticks which featured current Head Coach Tim Geers, assistant coach Tyler Lovell and players James Collins, Brodee Foster, Tom Harvie and Cam Geddes.

Ogilvie has been a key figure in UWA’s success in the WA Premier League, helping the club secure the premiership in 2025. His outstanding 2025 campaign was recognised with the Olympian’s Medal as the competition’s Fairest & Best player.

Joining him in the squad is 17-year-old Max Nelson, who earned selection following an impressive TeamStar Premier League season with UWA. The talented midfielder-defender capped off the year by claiming the Paul Gaudoin Youth Player of the Year award.

The son of former Hockeyroo and WA Diamond Shayni Nelson, Max has continued to rise through the ranks, earning selection in Hockey Australia’s Talent Accelerator 32 program alongside Ian Grobbelaar and representing the Australia Under-18 team during its tour of India earlier this year.

Nelson was also part of UWA’s 2025 premiership-winning side alongside Ogilvie and fellow Thundersticks Ethan Yem, Geddes and Harry Golding.

Ogilvie and Nelson replace Luke Anderson and Ben O’Grady.

The Thundersticks face a tough assignment against a NSW Pride outfit that has opened its season with consecutive victories over Melbourne Cobras and Brisbane Blaze. However, Perth pushed the Pride all the way when the sides met last season, falling by just one goal, and will take confidence from an improved performance against Hockey Club Melbourne last weekend.

Women’s

As the Perth Thundersticks Women chase a third consecutive victory, the side will take just one change into Saturday’s clash with NSW Pride.

Defender Pippa Morgan is set to make her long-awaited return to the Hockey One stage after injury sidelined her for the entirety of the 2025 season.

Morgan last featured for the Thundersticks during the club’s historic 2024 campaign, helping guide the side through an undefeated season that culminated in a 4-1 Grand Final victory over Brisbane Blaze and the franchise’s maiden Hockey One premiership.

While named in the Thundersticks squad in 2925, injury prevented Morgan from taking the field. Since returning to action, she enjoyed a strong season with UWA in the TeamStar Premier League, rejoining the side in Round 2 and captaining the club to a Semi Final appearance.

Morgan replaces Georgia Hiskins in this week's line-up.

The Thundersticks enter the encounter in strong form, having opened their campaign with back-to-back victories over Tassie Tigers and Hockey Club Melbourne.

NSW Pride have experienced mixed fortunes through the opening rounds, suffering a narrow 5-4 defeat to Melbourne Cobras before responding with an impressive 3-0 win over Brisbane Blaze last weekend.

Perth will also take confidence from recent history against the Pride. The Thundersticks claimed victories in both meetings between the sides last season, highlighted by Madi Ratcliffe’s six-goal performance in Round 7 and a dominant all-round display in a 6-0 Semi Final triumph.
