GOLDFIELDS-ESPERANCE

Eastern Goldfields – Kalgoorlie

Four Goldfields young guns will have the opportunity to show their skills on the big stage - after being named in the WA State Teams to travel interstate this year.

Shané Barnard is off to Newcastle in New South Wales after being named in to travel for the State Under-15s Girls, while Summer Shore was named as a train-on for the squad.

Mines Tess Rowling and Norths' Mischa Rodier are headed to Queensland in April - both being chosen to represent the state in the WA Under-18s sides.

GREAT SOUTHERN

Central Great Southern

After a heartbreaking late withdrawal from last year's Tokyo Olympic Games due to injury … Tambellup's Penny Squibb has been named in the Hockeyroos squad for 2022.

The 29-year-old made her debut for the side in 2018, and made her return to the squad in 2021 after a short hiatus.

Squibb has played 14 games in the green and gold - and has scored two goals.

 

Woodanilling Rangers star James Shackley has been named to represent WA at the Under-15's Boys National Championships.

Shackley will head to Newcastle in April, part of the WA Black Team.

He's not the only talented teen from the Central Great Southern Area who'll be headed interstate, Mikayla Sandwell earning a spot in the Under-15's Girls side.

Lower Great Southern – Albany and Surrounds

Also part of the WA Black Team to head to New South Wales next month is Jack Mills from Lower Great Southern.

He will depart with the side for the tournament which runs April 7 to 13.

Upper Great Southern – Narrogin and Surrounds

Construction has begun on the hockey stadium, including four corner towers with LED lighting.

The new bright lights are part of a plan to upgrade the facilities at the Narrogin Hockey Turf.

MID WEST

Geraldton 

Bruce Weston has been named as a train-on for the Under-15's state teams, a crucial part of the teams' preparation in the lead-up to the tournaments.

Fellow Under-15's star Alyssa Piper from Yacht Club Hockey in Geraldton is part of the Girls Black Team heading to the Championships next month.

Caitlin Mundy is another representative - being named in the Under-18 Gold Girls side.

SOUTH WEST

Bunbury

Jake Harvie is in the 2022 Kookaburras squad - eyeing off a second Commonwealth Games gold medal.

Harvie made his debut in 2017 at the International Festival of Hockey - before playing an impressive 70 games and scoring three times. 

 

Bunbury Cathedral's Harry Burns will join Towns Souths' Quinn Jones and Austin Northrop as the Bunbury representatives in the WA side at this year's Under-15s National Championships.

Milla Gray, Ella Smith and Molly Lincoln are all set to represent WA at the Newcastle Under-15's Girls Championship - selected in the WA Black team.

Bunbury has two representatives in the Under-18 Black side, with Sienna Ramshaw and Shelby Rumens both getting the chance to don the black and gold in a month's time.

 

Collie

Collie will have their very own star at the Under-15's National Champs… Stevi Townsend being named to travel with the WA Black Team.

Margaret River

Aran Zalewski will go around again - the experienced Kookaburra remaining in the squad this year.

He's played a whopping 201 games for Australia and has scored 26 goals since his debut in 2011.

The midfielder was also named in the Curtin University Sport Awards as the Sport Star of the Year for 2021.

 

Oscar Male is off to Newcastle in April after being named in the Under-15's State Team.

He'll be part of a talented group which is looking to improve on last years fourth and 10th place results.

WHEATBELT

Avon - Northam

Northam product Aleisha Power has made her return to the Hockeyroos side in 2022… in time for a possible Commonwealth Games berth in July.

The Goalkeeper plays for Victoria Park Xavier in the Premier League and has played in four international matches.
