From nail-biting finishes to commanding performances, Round 11 of the 2025 Stiles Electrical Premier League delivered a full spectrum of excitement. Here's how the action unfolded across the league.
Women's
Suburban Lions held off a spirited Reds side to claim a hard-fought 3-2 victory at Aquinas College on Saturday, 28 June, in Round 11 of the 2025 Stiles Electrical Premier League.
Reds struck early through Bella Connelly, who found the net with a field goal in just the second minute. But the Lions responded swiftly, with international import Maria Guastavino converting a penalty corner to level the scores.
As both teams battled for control, Meg McCaffrey capitalized on a key opportunity to put the Lions ahead 2-1 by quarter time.
Reds came out strong in the second quarter, denying a Lions penalty corner before Jane Claxton equalized with a well-taken field goal in the 19th minute. The match then settled into a tense deadlock, with neither side able to break through for the remainder of the second and third quarters.
With the clock ticking down, Guastavino stepped up once again, slotting home her second penalty corner goal in the 52nd minute to restore the Lions' lead. Despite a determined push from Reds in the final minutes, the Lions held firm to secure the 3-2 win.
Elsewhere around the grounds, Hale edged UWA 1-0, with Michaela Spano scoring the decisive goal, Victoria Park overcame Melville 3-1 in a composed performance, YMCC powered past North Coast Raiders 5-1, and Westside Wolves extended their unbeaten run with a dominant 6-0 win over Whitford, led by another hat-trick from Madi Ratcliffe.
Men's
In a gritty showdown at Aquinas College on Saturday, 28 June, Reds emerged victorious with a 7-4 win over Mods-OGM in Round 11 of the 2025 Stiles Electrical Premier League. The match featured another standout performance from Zack Rakkas, who impressed both in goal and on the scoresheet.
Reds wasted no time asserting dominance, with James Cameron netting a field goal in the opening two minutes. Rakkas then added two more goals in the 6th and 14th minutes, giving Reds a commanding 3-0 lead by quarter time.
Adrian Lockley extended the lead early in the second quarter, but Mods-OGM responded through Luke Nillsen’s penalty corner conversion. The match then turned into a thrilling end-to-end contest, with Tarrant Haami-Jones scoring off a penalty corner for Reds, quickly followed by Robbie Horn’s reply for Mods-OGM, leaving the score at 5-2 at halftime.
The third quarter saw both teams locked in a tense stalemate until Tyler Aitken narrowed the gap with a field goal, bringing Mods-OGM within two goals. Reds regained control in the final quarter, with Rakkas completing his hat-trick via a penalty corner in the 53rd minute and sealing the win with a field goal in the 59th. Nillsen added a late goal for Mods-OGM, but Reds held firm to secure the 7-4 victory.
Elsewhere around the grounds, UWA edged out Hale in a tight 3-2 contest, YMCC held off North Coast Raiders 3-2, Victoria Park stood strong to defeat Melville 3-2, WASPS and Fremantle Cockburn played out an entertaining 3-3 draw, and Westside Wolves cruised past Whitford with a 5-1 win.
Premier Division 2
In the Women's competition, Skye McCaffrey’s brace powered Suburban Lions to a 2-0 victory over Reds, while Victoria Park mirrored the scoreline in their win against Melville. UWA edged out Curtin University 3-1 in a competitive clash, and Mackenzie Brewer stole the spotlight with a hat-trick as Fremantle Cockburn overwhelmed North Coast Raiders 8-0. Meanwhile, Hale secured a narrow 1-0 win over Westside Wolves, thanks to a decisive goal from Brooke Corbett.
In the Men's competition, Curtin University and YMCC played out a thrilling 2-2 draw, while Hale and UWA also finished level with two goals apiece. Melville cruised past Victoria Park 8-1, led by a standout hat-trick from Hunter Banyard. Reds edged Rockingham Redbacks 1-0 thanks to a decisive strike from Alexander Nieves, WASPS held firm to defeat Fremantle Cockburn 2-0, and Westside Wolves narrowly overcame Whitford with a 1-0 win.
