Stiles Electrical Premier League Round 12 wrap

Before the Stiles Electrical Premier League pauses for the July school holidays, Perth’s hockey fields saw an extra burst of midweek energy as teams hit the turf for Round 12 action.


Men's

Whitford heads into the mid-season break on a high, clinching their first win of the 2025 Stiles Electrical Premier League season with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Mods-OGM.

The two sides faced off on Wednesday 2 July at Troy Pickard Hockey Centre in a Round 12 midweek showdown, both eager to build momentum heading into the second half of the season.

The opening half was a tense affair, with neither team able to break the deadlock despite relentless pressure. It wasn’t until the 34th minute that Fraser Heigh broke through, slotting a field goal to give Whitford the lead.

Mods-OGM responded with intent, earning back-to-back penalty corners. Pierce Paynter capitalized on the second opportunity, leveling the scores.

The final quarter brought a surge of excitement. Jamie Lyall restored Whitford’s lead in the 51st minute, followed by a sharp finish from Simon Naughtin just four minutes later to make it 3-1.

Mods-OGM kept the pressure on, with Jamie Tritton narrowing the gap in the 59th minute via a penalty corner, but Whitford held firm to secure a memorable win.

Tuesday night served up two gripping encounters. At UWA Superturf, a dramatic last-minute strike from Kurtis Scaini sealed a thrilling 3-2 victory for Victoria Park over UWA. Meanwhile, at Melville Toyota Stadium, Blake Govers dazzled with two spectacular goals, helping Reds edge past Melville 3-2 in another nail-biter.

On Thursday night, Westside Wolves staged a thrilling comeback with fourth-quarter goals from Patrick Andrew and Tom Keating to edge YMCC 2-1. Fremantle Cockburn and Hale played out a hard-fought 2-2 draw, while the WASPS delivered a commanding 7-0 win over North Coast Raiders.


Women's

Suburban Lions roared into the mid-season break with a commanding 8-0 win over Whitford in Round 12 of the 2025 Stiles Electrical Premier League.

Playing at Lemnos Field on Wednesday 2 July, the Lions delivered a dominant performance in their final outing before the break.

After a tense opening quarter, the Lions took control early in the second. Maria Guastavino broke through in the 16th minute, followed swiftly by Jolie Sertorio to make it 2-0. Pricilla Mateos then added two more field goals in the 23rd and 27th minutes, giving the Lions a 4-0 lead at halftime.

The momentum continued in the third quarter, with Sertorio scoring her second in the 32nd minute. Mateos completed her hat-trick with a penalty corner goal in the 43rd minute, pushing the margin to six.

In the final term, Georgina Dowd joined the scoresheet with field goals in the 50th and 59th minutes, sealing an emphatic victory.

Despite Whitford’s efforts, the Lions proved too strong, showcasing their depth and attacking prowess in a statement win.

Tuesday night delivered two exciting clashes. At Melville Toyota Stadium, a tightly contested battle between Melville and Reds ended in a hard-fought 1-1 draw. Meanwhile, over at UWA Superturf, Bellé Ramshaw stole the spotlight, netting a brilliant hat-trick to lead UWA to a 4-2 victory over Victoria Park.

On Thursday night, the WASPS secured a 4-0 victory over the North Coast Raiders, while the scheduled match between Westside Wolves and YMCC has been postponed to a later date.


Premier Division 2

While the Premier Division 2 Women's competition has already entered its mid-season break, the Men's division delivered a thrilling round of midweek matchups.

Tuesday night saw Victoria Park dominate UWA with a commanding 5-0 win at UWA Superturf, keeping the home side scoreless.

The excitement continued on Thursday night, with a five-match bonanza lighting up fields across Perth.

Curtin University came from behind to edge out the WASPS 2-1, while the Reds held off a spirited Melville side in a 4-3 thriller. Whitford narrowly defeated Rockingham Redbacks 2-1, Westside Wolves and YMCC shared the spoils in an entertaining 3-3 draw, and Fremantle Cockburn and Hale finished level at 1-1.
