Stiles Electrical Premier League Round 18 wrap

With the race to the 2025 Stiles Electrical Premier League finals reaching a fever pitch, teams are throwing everything into each match in a relentless push to secure their place in the finals showdown.


Men's

Reds 7 def. Whitford 3
A four-goal haul from Brodee Foster has helped Reds continue to press their case for the Stiles Electrical Premier League finals, defeating Whitford 7-3 at Aquinas College. Reds would be first to score in the exciting match-up, with Foster scoring a field goal in the ninth minute. While Whitford would bring the scores level with a field goal from Anand Gupte, Reds quickly responded to take back the lead with a Blake Govers penalty corner by quarter time. Reds continued to extend their lead throughout the second quarter with Foster scoring a second field goal in the 21st minute. Whitford would fight hard to stay in the contest with a field goal from Samuel Le Dain but Reds would extend their lead further with an Adrian Lockley field goal to bring the scores to 4-2 by half time. The third quarter saw Reds take control with two penalty corner goals from Foster. Although Whitford would attempt to fight back by scoing early in the final quarter via Jacob Wetherley, Reds would seal the deal with a penalty corner goal from Jeremy Hayward and hold strong to finish with a four-goal win.

Fremantle Cockburn 2 drew Victoria Park 2
An exciting top of the table clash between Fremantle Cockburn and Victoria Park at Lakelands Hockey & Sporting Facility saw both teams draw level for the second time this season. The first quarter saw Fremantle Cockburn break the initial deadlock in the opening minutes through a Jack Welch field goal, but Victoria Park's Kye Stirrat levelled the scores in the 11th minute. The Panthers would take the lead in the second quarter, with Ky Willott scoring a field goal. The contest would soon enter a stalemate with both teams throwing everything at each other for the remainder of the second quarter. The stalemate continued into the second half with neither side breaking through. Just when it looked like Victoria Park would come away with the win, the Magpies would bring the scores level once again with a last-minute penalty corner goal from Ehren Hazell ending the contest at 2-2.

UWA 9 def. North Coast Raiders 0
UWA have bounced back from a disappointing loss to Westside Wolves in a big way, putting up a dominant effort against North Coast Raiders at UWA Superturf. After the initial back and forth throughout the opening quarter, Max Nelson would put the home side on the board with a field goal in the 12th minute. Despite the Raiders' efforts to keep up, UWA would extend their lead with two quick goals - a field goal from Maxime Pitance and a further field goal from Nathan Ephraums to lead 3-0 at half time. UWA took control of the match during the third quarter, adding four goals to their tally via Pitance (33'), Ethan Yem (36') and Ephraums (42'/44') to lead 7-0 at the final change. Ephraums would add a fourth goal to his haul in the final quarter and Lachlan Busiko would seal the deal with a last-minute penalty corner goal to finish the game at 9-0.

Mods-OGM vs WASPS - match suspended
Due to inclement weather on Sunday 24 August at Guildford Grammar School, the scheduled match-up between Mods-OGM and WASPS was suspended. While both teams attempted to play out the opening quarter, the match was ultimately called off and rescheduled to Tuesday 26 August.

Hale 7 def. Westside Wolves 1
Hale have continued knocking on the door to finals, recording a big win over Westside Wolves at Hale Hockey Club, including a four-goal haul from Liam Flynn. After the initial back and forth, Liam Flynn would hit the scoreboard for Hale during the 11th minute, scoring a penalty corner goal to put the home side in front. The second quarter saw Hale extend their lead and keep the Wolves quiet with a field goal from Charlie Johnston in the 20th minute, and a second Liam Flynn penalty corner to lead 3-0 at half time. As the Wolves looked to fight back, Hale would add another goal to their tally in the third quarter with Flynn scoring a field to complete a hat-trick. The fourth quarter saw plenty of action, with Sam McCulloch scoring a field goal in the 49th minute to extend Hale's lead to five goals. While the Wolves would finally hit the scoreboard via Alistair Murray, Hale would extend their lead even further with a second field goal from Flynn backed up by another field goal via McCulloch to finish with a 7-1 win.

Melville 4 def. YMCC 2

Melville have strengthened their push for a finals berth with a statement 4–2 victory over YMCC at Melville Toyota Stadium. The match began evenly, with both sides trading penalty corner opportunities in a tense opening quarter. It was Melville who broke the deadlock in the second, as Matt Willis found the back of the net with a well-taken field goal. Momentum stayed with the home side in the third quarter, when Jake Staines doubled the lead with another field goal, giving Melville a 2–0 cushion heading into the final term. The fourth quarter delivered plenty of drama. Staines struck again to make it 3–0, but YMCC responded through Luke Blee, sparking hopes of a late comeback. James Day restored Melville’s two-goal buffer with a clinical penalty corner conversion, before Blee added his second to bring YMCC within striking distance. Despite the late surge, Melville held firm to secure a crucial win and keep their finals hopes alive.


Women's

UWA 7 def. North Coast Raiders 0
UWA have continued to strengthen their case for the Stiles Electrical Premier League Finals, putting up a dominant performance against North Coast Raiders at UWA Superturf. The home side did not take long to establish a lead, with Jessica Butterworth (6') and Saysha Pillay (10') both scoring field goals. As the Raiders tried to catch up, UWA maintained control with a field goal from Prada Herron in the second quarter and a penalty corner goal from Britney DeSilva in the third. UWA's commanding presence grew in the final quarter, with goals from Shayni Nelson (46'), B. DeSilva (51') and Bellé Ramshaw (59') sealing the deal 7-0.

Suburban Lions 3 def. WASPS 0
Suburban Lions have continued to cement themselves in second position on the ladder, defeating WASPS 3-0 at Lemnos Field. It took just three minutes for the Lions to hit the scoreboard with Maria Guastavino scoring a penalty corner goal. Determined not to give up easily, WASPS mounted the pressure, leading to plenty of back and forth throughout the remainder of the opening quarter, the second quarter and the third. Following the stalemate, the Lions charged through the WASPS with a Chelsea Turner field goal in the 53rd minute to extend their lead, as well as a second Guastavino penalty corner goal to seal the deal 3-0.

Reds 8 def. Whitford 0
Looking to make a strong finish to the season, Reds have produced a commanding performance against Whitford at Aquinas College. After some initial back and forth, Reds would hit the scoreboard first with goals from Lucy Barrett (9') and Bella Connelly (14') to lead 2-0 at quarter time. Although Whitford mounted the pressure in their bid to chase Reds in the second quarter, the home side would extend their lead late with a field goal from Georgina Minta just before half time. The third quarter saw Reds take control of the match with goals via Britt Wang (34'), Peyton Ritchie (38') and Jane Claxton (39'), leaving Whitford in their dust 6-0 at the final change. Two further goals from Abby Davies (51') and Connelly (56') saw Reds cap off their dominant performance 8-0.

Melville 1 drew YMCC 1
A tight contest saw Melville and YMCC meet each other's match at Melville Toyota Stadium. From the outset it was an even contest with plenty of end to end action. While neither side could break the deadlock during the first half, YMCC would be first to score with a penalty corner goal from Shoko Kanefuji in the 33rd minute. Melville would quickly respond, with Yuu Asai scoring a penalty corner goal of her own just a minute later to bring the scores level. The match entered another stalemate that would continue for the remainder of the match, resulting in a 1-1 draw.

Hale 3 def. Westside Wolves 0
Hale have continued building momentum towards the finals, locking in a huge win over table-toppers Westside Wolves at Hale Hockey Club. In the action-packed match between two of this season's top teams, there was plenty of back and forth to open the contest. It would not be until the second quarter that a goal would be scored, with Kirstin Dwyer scoring a penalty corner goal in the 19th minute to put Hale in front. Hale would back up their efforts minutes later with Michaela Spano scoring a field goal to extend the lead to two goals by half time. Although the Wolves attempted to fight back during the third quarter, Hale would go on to extend their lead further with a second penalty corner goal from Dwyer in the final quarter to claim victory 3-0.


Premier Division 2

In the Women's competition, Victoria Park and UWA played out an exciting 2-2 draw, Fremantle Cockburn defeated Suburban Lions 4-0 to secure promotion for 2026, Curtin University defeated Reds 1-0, Westside Wolves secured a commanding 4-0 victory over Melville, and Hale defeated North Coast Raiders 2-0 with two first-half goals.

In the Men's competition, WASPS defeated Rockingham Redbacks 5-1 in a spirited encounter, a last-gasp goal from Nathan Botha saw Reds pip Whitford 2-1, Fremantle Cockburn held off a determined Victoria Park 5-4 in an exciting contest, UWA held off Curtin University 3-0, Hale and Westside Wolves played out a 2-2 draw, and Melville and YMCC played out a 1-1 draw.
