Stiles Electrical Premier League Round 5 wrap
Published Mon 12 May 2025
Round 5 of the Stiles Electrical Premier League delivered goals and milestones across the board, with UWA, YMCC and Suburban Lions posting big wins, and several hard-fought draws keeping things tight.
Women's
UWA responded in emphatic fashion to their narrow loss against WASPS, securing a 3-0 victory over a resilient Reds side in Round 5 of the Stiles Electrical Premier League.
The match took place at UWA Superturf on Sunday, 11 May, with both teams showing early intent in a high-energy opening quarter. Despite the end-to-end action, defences held firm and the scoreboard remained untouched.
Reds defender Jocelyn Bartram was a standout early, leading from the back and helping her side stay in the contest under intense pressure.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 19th minute when Jesse Reid fired home a field goal to give UWA the lead heading into halftime.
The third quarter turned into a tense arm-wrestle, with neither side able to capitalise on their chances.
It wasn’t until the final quarter that UWA found their rhythm. Goals from Prada Herron and Lexie Pickering gave the home side breathing room, sealing the win with a commanding three-goal margin.
Despite the Reds' determination, they couldn’t find a way past the UWA defence.
Elsewhere around the grounds, WASPS overcame YMCC 4-1 at Lemnos Field, two quick strikes from Tyler Pedley helped Hale defeat Whitford 4-1 at Troy Pickard Hockey Centre, Georgina Dowd delivered a dominant four-goal performance as Suburban Lions overran North Coast Raiders 9-0, and Madi Ratcliffe’s lone goal was the difference in Westside Wolves’ 1-0 win over Victoria Park.
Men's
UWA marked Chris Bausor’s record-breaking 366th Premier League appearance in style, producing a dominant 6-2 victory over Reds in front of a supportive home crowd at UWA Superturf on Sunday, 11 May.
The Round 5 clash in the Stiles Electrical Premier League began at a blistering pace, with both sides eager to make an early impact. Reds had a golden opportunity to take the lead with a penalty stroke, but UWA goalkeeper Yannick Mulders came up big with a crucial save to keep the scores level.
Momentum swung UWA’s way in the second quarter, as Tom Wickham found the net twice in quick succession, putting the hosts in control. Wickham added a third later in the term to complete a sensational hat-trick, before Adrian Lockley pulled one back for Reds just before the break to make it 3-1 at halftime.
Reds came out firing in the third quarter, with Lockley converting a second penalty stroke to narrow the gap to one. However, UWA’s defence held firm, keeping their lead intact heading into the final term.
The fourth quarter saw UWA surge ahead once more. Xavier Gispert added a field goal, Chris Ciriello unleashed a powerful flick from a penalty corner, and milestone man Chris Bausor capped off the celebration with a converted penalty stroke—sealing a memorable 6-2 triumph.
Elsewhere, a hat-trick from Cooper Burns powered YMCC to a 5-1 win over WASPS, Whitford and Hale battled to a 1-1 stalemate, Fremantle Cockburn and Melville also couldn’t be separated, finishing 1-1, North Coast Raiders were too strong for Mods-OGM, winning 4-1, and Victoria Park outgunned Westside Wolves 4-2.
