Published Tue 10 Jun 2025

Round 8 of the Stiles Electrical Premier League wasn’t just about goals and glory—it was about celebrating inclusion, diversity, and community as Pride Round took centre stage across WA hockey fields. From rainbow socks to fierce showdowns, the weekend delivered both heart and hustle. Here's how the action unfolded across the league.

Men's

Westside Wolves lit up Perth Hockey Stadium on Saturday, 7 June, with a stunning 4-1 victory over reigning premiers UWA during the Stiles Electrical Premier League’s Pride Round—and they didn’t just win the match, they claimed the Pride Round trophy in style!

Despite UWA entering as the favourites, it took just six minutes for the Wolves to flip the script. Tom Harvie, in his final Premier League appearance before heading to Europe with the Kookaburras, nailed a penalty corner to open the scoring.

From there, the Wolves were relentless. Dane Gavranich and Alistair Murray struck in quick succession, pushing the lead to 3-0 by halftime. UWA’s Tom Wickham gave his side a glimmer of hope in the third quarter, converting a penalty corner, but the Wolves’ defence held firm.

With just two minutes left on the clock, Matthew Edgar sealed the deal with a slick field goal, sending the Wolves and their fans into celebration mode.

Elsewhere around the grounds, Victoria Park shut out Whitford with a commanding 4-0 win, Reds and YMCC delivered fireworks in a thrilling 3-3 draw, Melville blanked WASPS 3-0, Liam Flynn was unstoppable, scoring all six goals in Hale's 6-0 win over Mods-OGM, and Fremantle Cockburn edged out North Coast Raiders 1-0, thanks to a lone strike from Harrison Banyard.

Women's

Westside Wolves proved once again why they’re the team to beat in 2025, grinding out a 1-0 victory over UWA in a high-stakes showdown at Perth Hockey Stadium during the Stiles Electrical Premier League’s Pride Round on Saturday, 7 June.

It was a fierce battle from the first whistle, with both sides trading penalty corners and pressure in a tense opening quarter. But it was Madi Ratcliffe who broke the deadlock early in the second, converting a penalty corner to give the Wolves the edge.

UWA fought hard to equalise, but the Wolves’ defence stood tall, holding the 1-0 lead into halftime and through a fiery second half that saw tempers flare and yellow cards fly.

The win capped off a massive week for the Wolves, who also edged out Reds 4-3 on Tuesday night at Lemnos Field—Ratcliffe starring again with a hat-trick in the rescheduled Round 4 clash.

Elsewhere around the grounds, Hale and Suburban Lions played out in a tight 2-2 draw, Reds bounced back from their Tuesday-night loss with a 1-0 win over YMCC, Victoria Park dominated Whitford in a fiery 4-0 victory, and WASPS held off Melville 3-1 in a strong showing.
