Stiles Electrical Premier League Round 11 Wrap

Amid celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community, round 11 of the Stiles Electrical Premier League brought plenty of exciting action.


Men’s

Two field goals from skipper Daniel Timms has led UWA to claim the Pride Round trophy, defeating Westside Wolves 3-0 in an action-packed match.

Amid misty conditions at the UWA Superturf, UWA and the Wolves went head-to-head as the headline match of the Stiles Electrical Premier League Pride Round on Saturday 8 June.

After a bit of back and forth between both sides, UWA would draw the first blood with Jaxon Geddes scoring a field goal in the fourth minute.

While the Wolves looked to step up the pressure, UWA solidified their early lead with a field goal from Daniel Timms to lead 2-0 at quarter time.

The Wolves continued striving to fight back during the second quarter as the rain set in.

However, opportunities to score via penalty corners went begging as UWA maintained their lead by half time.

As the match continued to pick up intensity in the third term, UWA extended their lead even further with Tims scoring his second field goal of the match.

As the Wolves looked to prevent being kept scoreless, their efforts proved futile as the home side held strong to win 3-0.

Elsewhere, Ben and Jake Staines combined to help Melville on their way to record a 2-0 victory over Fremantle Cockburn, YMCC defeated Mods-OGM 4-1, Whitford pulled off an upset 4-3 win over Victoria Park, Hale defeated WASPS 4-1, and Reds beat out North Coast Raiders 4-2.

In the second lot of mid-week fixtures, Reds edged out Melville 1-0, Hale defeated Mods-OGM 5-1, YMCC pulled off an upset 4-2 win over UWA, Victoria Park defeated North Coast Raiders 4-1, Fremantle Cockburn beat Whitford 2-0, and Westside Wolves and WASPS drew level at 2-2.

Women’s

An exciting Pride Round match saw UWA and Westside Wolves unable to be separated, resulting in a 2-2 draw.

UWA and Westside Wolves faced off at the UWA Superturf as the headline match for the Stiles Electrical Premier League Pride Round on Saturday 8 June.

From the outset, both sides looked to score early but it was the Wolves that would break the early deadlock with Elly Buckley scoring a field goal in the ninth minute.

Not willing to give up easily, UWA fought back in the second quarter, with Shayni Nelson scoring off a penalty corner to bring the scores level by half time.

The home side continued their onslaught as the contest picked up intensity, with Bellé Ramshaw scoring off a penalty corner to put them in front by the final break.

As both sides threw everything at each other during the final quarter, Elly Buckley would bring the scores level once again with a 58th minute goal, resulting in the 2-2 draw.

Elsewhere, four goals via Beatriz Monger-Molowny helped Victoria Park secure a dominant 6-1 win over Whitford, Matilda Banfield and Alejandra Palacio combined with two goals each in Suburban Lions’ 4-1 win over Melville, Hale held off WASPS 2-1, and Jade Vanderzwan celebrated her 100th Premier League match in style with a 5-2 victory over Reds.

Division 2

In the Men’s competition, Melville held off Fremantle Cockburn 2-1, UWA and Westside Wolves drew at 4-4, YMCC defeated Mods-OGM 6-1, Whitford defeated Victoria Park 6-3, WASPS held off Hale 2-0 and Reds beat Curtin University 4-3.

During the second lot of mid-week fixtures, Reds held off Melville 4-3, Hale defeated Mods-OGM 4-1, YMCC edged out UWA 4-3, Victoria Park produced a dominant 7-2 win over Curtin University, Fremantle Cockburn defeated Whitford 4-2, and WASPS beat Westside Wolves 2-1.

In the Women’s competition, Westside Wolves edged out UWA 1-0, Curtin University defeated Victoria Park 4-2, YMCC dominated Hale 4-0, Suburban Lions defeated Melville 4-2, and Reds held off North Coast Raiders 3-1.
