After a string of dominant performances in the attacking half, Outbacks' Roos Swann ran away with the Most Valuable Player award amongst a star-studded side that claimed gold in the first ever Ric Charlesworth Classic.

Speaking on the honour, Swann said, “It’s really nice to be able to win the MVP, I didn’t expect it at all, so I feel very honoured, but in the end it’s a team effort.”

Swann credits a good group of girls for her individual and team success, adding "We have a really good bunch of girls, everyone just worked really hard and it was such a positive environment which made it really enjoyable to play which I think added to our on-field success."

The women's Outbacks had to fight to snatch the trophy against a strong Highlanders outfit, with a nail-biting finish seeing the side claim the bragging rights.

Speaking on being able to claim the first ever Ric Charlesworth Classic trophy, Swann said, "It feels really good, I think we worked really hard as a team and built towards this final, which was a really tough final, but in the end we pulled through and got the win which is nice."

Swann showed her delight with the tournament's outcome, stating the benefits it will have for players in the future. "I think the fact that you got to play with other players in the league will definitely improve the Hockey WA environment; you'll get to see these girls next year and they may be on other teams but you'll be able to have a chat and get along which I really think is a huge positive," Swann said.
