Hale took firm control in the second quarter, as Liam Flynn and Ben Arnold found the back of the net in quick succession to stretch the margin. Reds responded quickly, with Zach Rakkas scoring a field goal to reduce the deficit to one by quarter time. The second quarter remained highly competitive, with both teams trading possession and creating opportunities. Fremantle Cockburn managed to extend their advantage before the break, as Rhys Angwin slotted a field goal to take a 3–1 lead into half time.
