The opening round of the 2026 TeamStar Premier League delivered a mix of dominant performances and tight contests, setting the tone for the season ahead.


TeamStar Premier League Men

North Coast Raiders def by YMCC 1-7
YMCC began their TeamStar Premier League season with a 7–1 victory over North Coast Raiders at Perth Hockey Stadium on Friday 27 March. The opening quarter set the platform for YMCC, with Cooper Burns converting a penalty corner before goals from Hamish Adamson and Daykin Stanger pushed the margin out early. North Coast Raiders responded late in the term through a Jasdev Singh penalty stroke to stay in touch at quarter time. YMCC maintained control across the remainder of the match, adding goals in each quarter to gradually extend their lead. Hamish Adamson added his second field goal and Burns continued to find the back of the net from penalty corners, finishing with four for the match.

Mods-OGM def by Fremantle Cockburn 3-5
Fremantle Cockburn recorded their first win of the 2026 season, holding off a determined Mods‑OGM outfit at Perth Hockey Stadium on Saturday 28 March. A tightly contested opening quarter saw both sides trade possession without finding the scoreboard. Fremantle Cockburn eventually broke through via a Lachlan Rogers field goal, but Mods‑OGM responded through Liam Carman to have the match locked at 1–1 heading into half time. The Magpies lifted after the break, applying greater pressure and capitalising on their chances. Goals from Jack Welch, Fraser Heigh and Ehren Hazell allowed Fremantle Cockburn to open up a buffer as the match progressed. Mods‑OGM continued to push, with Angus Duff and Joaquin Sanchez scoring in the final quarter, but Fremantle Cockburn were able to hold firm and close out the win.

Reigning premiers UWA opened their 2026 campaign with a win, holding off Melville 6–2 at Melville Toyota Stadium on Saturday 28 March. The opening quarter was tightly contested, with both sides trading possession. Dylan Downey marked his TeamStar Premier League debut by converting a penalty corner to give the home side the lead. UWA responded before the main break, with Ben Baxter finishing a field goal to level the scores at half time. UWA took control in the third quarter, capitalising on their opportunities through goals from Cam Geddes and Nathan Ephraums to open up a buffer. Melville struck back in the final term, with Downey again converting from a penalty corner, but UWA ensured there was no late comeback. Further goals from Frank Main and Nathan Czinner sealed the result, as the reigning premiers closed out a four‑goal victory to begin their title defence.

After an even opening quarter in which both sides shared possession, Willott broke the match open with a rapid hat‑trick inside five minutes. A penalty corner goal from Samuel Keir followed soon after, giving the Panthers a 4–0 advantage at half time. Victoria Park maintained their control through the third quarter, with Willott adding two more goals to complete his five and Kurtis Scaini also getting on the scoreboard as the lead continued to grow. The breakthrough finally came in the 35th minute, when Tom Harvie converted a penalty corner to give the Wolves the lead. The Reds responded shortly after, with Jeremy Mayne finishing a field goal to level the scores at three‑quarter time, setting up a tense final quarter. With both teams pushing for a result, the match remained finely balanced until the closing moments. Hale responded soon after, with Liam Flynn finding the back of the net to bring the scores level. The sides remained locked through a tight middle period before Hale edged ahead late in the third quarter, Flynn scoring his second field goal to give the hosts the lead heading into the final term. WASPS continued to press and reduced the deficit through a Craig Marais penalty corner, but Hale finished strongly. North Coast Raiders def by YMCC 0-4
YMCC recorded their first win of the 2026 season with a convincing four‑goal victory over North Coast Raiders at Perth Hockey Stadium on Friday 27 March. YMCC set the early tempo, opening the scoring through Jessie Stewart inside the opening minutes with a well‑taken field goal. The Raiders worked to stay in contention, but YMCC continued to build pressure, adding further goals via Hayley Carter from open play and Jaime McDonald from a penalty corner to take a 3–0 lead into half time. The second half saw both sides trade possession in a more even contest, but YMCC maintained control. Carter added her second goal of the match to extend the margin and secure the result for the visitors.

The Lions made an early breakthrough through Maria Guastavino, but Fremantle Cockburn remained competitive through the opening exchanges and worked to limit further scoring opportunities. The match opened up after the break, with Suburban Lions asserting control and steadily extending their lead. Guastavino added to her tally in the second half, supported by goals from Georgina Dowd and Jolie Sertorio as the Lions pulled clear. New recruit Courtney Schonell capped off the performance with a goal in the final minute, sealing a dominant season‑opening result.

The Wolves opened the scoring early, with Madi Ratcliffe converting a field goal in the ninth minute before Jessica Freedman added a second late in the second quarter to give the home side a 2–0 lead at half time. The Reds applied consistent pressure and were rewarded in the 37th minute when Kimberley Watts found the back of the net to halve the margin. The final quarter saw both sides trade possession in a tight contest, but Westside Wolves held firm defensively to close out the win.
