The Wolves made a strong start, breaking through Hale’s defence early to earn a penalty corner. Tom Harvie converted the opportunity in the fifth minute to give the visiting side the lead. The Wolves looked to build on their early momentum with another penalty corner, but Hale’s defence stood firm, limiting the margin to a single goal at quarter time. The second quarter evolved into a tightly contested battle, with both teams sharing possession in a high-pressure exchange. Hale also earned a penalty corner but was unable to capitalise, leaving the score unchanged heading into halftime. After the break, Hale lifted their intensity, mounting sustained pressure and pushing hard for an equaliser. The Magpies pushed hard for a response, earning another penalty corner early in the second quarter. While YMCC’s defence initially held firm, Rhys Angwin found a breakthrough, scoring a field goal to level the scores heading into halftime. Shannon struck again early in the third term, this time with a field goal in the 35th minute to give Whitford a two-goal buffer.
