Hale defeated by Fremantle Cockburn 0-1
Fremantle Cockburn have recorded a hard-fought upset, edging Hale by a single goal in a closely contested match under lights at Hale Hockey Club on Friday 15 May. The opening half saw both teams share possession in an evenly balanced affair. Fremantle Cockburn had an opportunity to break the deadlock with a penalty corner in the second quarter, but Hale’s defence held firm to deny them. The intensity lifted in the third quarter as Hale pressed forward, earning their own penalty corners in search of a goal. However, it was the Magpies who eventually broke through, with Lachlan Rogers converting a penalty corner in the 40th minute. Hale pushed to respond in the final quarter, but Fremantle Cockburn remained composed in defence, holding on to secure a narrow and impressive victory.

Victoria Park have responded strongly to their recent loss to Hale, delivering a commanding six-goal victory over Mods-OGM at Perth Hockey Stadium on Saturday 16 May. The opening quarter was tightly contested, with both sides producing end-to-end play. The breakthrough came early in the second quarter when Ky Willott opened the scoring with a field goal. Victoria Park soon built momentum, with Nick Corner and Willott adding further field goals in quick succession to establish a 3–0 lead at halftime. The Panthers continued their dominance after the break. Jake Whetton converted a penalty corner, while Kurtis Scaini and Isaac Temby each found the back of the net with field goals, extending the margin to 6–0 by three-quarter time. Despite Mods-OGM pressing forward in the final quarter, Ben Taylor added another for Victoria Park from a penalty corner. YMCC have maintained their dominant form, stretching their unbeaten run to eight matches with a three-goal victory over Melville at Melville Toyota Stadium on Saturday, 16 May. The first half was evenly contested, with both sides applying strong pressure and sharing possession in a tightly fought battle. The game broke open in the third quarter, as Cooper Burns made his mark by converting penalty corners in quick succession to give YMCC a crucial lead. Melville pushed hard to respond in the final quarter, but Burns completed a clinical hat-trick with a third goal from another penalty corner. Despite Melville’s persistence, YMCC’s defence stood firm to secure another impressive win.

The opening quarter was closely contested, with both teams locked in an even battle. Whitford broke the deadlock late in the term, as Ethan O’Brien converted a penalty corner to give his side the early advantage. North Coast Raiders looked to respond in the second quarter, earning several penalty corner opportunities, but Whitford capitalised again, with Anand Gupte scoring from a set piece to extend the lead to 2–0 at halftime. The Raiders mounted an impressive comeback in the third quarter, as David Beevers struck twice with field goals to level the scores heading into the final break. Whitford responded strongly in the last quarter, regaining control through Gupte’s second goal from a penalty corner before Samuel Le Dain sealed the result with a field goal, securing a hard-fought victory.

UWA made an immediate impact, with Cam Geddes converting a penalty corner just two minutes into the match to give his side an early lead. Reds responded before the end of the opening quarter, as Jeremy Hayward also struck from a penalty corner to level the scores. The second quarter was played at a high intensity, with both teams sharing possession but unable to break the deadlock. The contest remained tightly fought in the third quarter, where Flynn Ogilvie restored UWA’s lead with a field goal. Once again, Reds answered quickly, with Brodee Foster scoring a field goal to even things up heading into the final term. Reds took control in the fourth quarter, with Hayward proving decisive as he converted two more penalty corners to complete his hat-trick and secure an impressive victory.

The Wolves made a fast start in the opening quarter, with Dane Gavranich finding the back of the net just three minutes in, before Will Byas added a second field goal to establish an early advantage. They continued to control proceedings in the second quarter, extending their lead through Tom Harvie, who converted a penalty corner to give the Wolves a 3–0 buffer heading into halftime. WASPS began to fight their way back into the contest in the third quarter, with Craig Marais converting a penalty corner to reduce the deficit. He struck again in the final quarter with a field goal, as WASPS pushed hard to complete the comeback. Despite the late pressure, Westside Wolves held firm defensively to secure a narrow win and maintain their impressive undefeated streak.

Hale have continued to build strong form, defeating Fremantle Cockburn by three goals in a milestone match to celebrate Fiona Cock’s 150th game at Hale Hockey Club on Friday 15 May. Hale made an early impact, with Tayla Claxton opening the scoring just four minutes into the contest with a field goal. Fremantle Cockburn looked to respond, but Hale’s defence held firm to maintain their lead at quarter time. The advantage grew in the second quarter, with Elyssa Melville adding a field goal. Both sides then settled into a tightly contested period, trading possession without further scoring, as Hale carried their lead into halftime. The game opened up again in the final quarter, with Melville netting her second field goal to extend the margin. Fremantle Cockburn managed a response through Teegan Hager, who converted a penalty corner, but Hale quickly answered as Ahlia Vuletich scored from a penalty corner to seal the victory.

After a competitive opening, the Lions struck first through Ashlee Jarvis, who scored a field goal, before Maria Guastavino added a penalty corner conversion. Jarvis then secured her second goal, also from a penalty corner, giving the Lions a strong three-goal lead at quarter time. Victoria Park looked to respond in the second quarter, but the Lions continued to apply pressure, with Georgina Dowd finding the back of the net with a field goal to extend the margin to four goals at halftime. The Lions carried their momentum into the third quarter, as Courtney Schonell added another field goal. Victoria Park managed a reply through Rachel Frusher, who converted a penalty corner, but Dowd struck again with her second field goal to restore a five-goal cushion heading into the final break. The final quarter was more evenly contested, but Suburban Lions remained in control to secure a comprehensive win.

After an even opening, Whitford broke through with Jamie Murphy scoring a field goal, before Jessica Abbott added another to give her side a two-goal lead at quarter time. The Raiders looked to respond in the second quarter, but Whitford remained in control, creating consistent attacking opportunities. Olivia Shannon capitalised with a field goal to extend the margin to 3–0 at halftime. Whitford took full command in the third quarter, with Shannon, Finlay Reimers, Murphy and Petra Verster all finding the back of the net in a dominant stretch of play. North Coast Raiders managed a late consolation in the final quarter through Samara Tonkin, but Whitford quickly answered, with Maddison Brooks adding another goal to seal an emphatic victory.

Westside Wolves have responded emphatically to their recent slump, with Madi Ratcliffe delivering a remarkable seven-goal performance in an eight-goal rout of WASPS at Lemnos Field on Sunday 17 May. The Wolves wasted no time asserting control, with Ratcliffe converting two penalty corners in the opening quarter to give her side an early lead. She continued her outstanding form in the second quarter, adding two field goals and another penalty corner conversion to single-handedly stretch the margin to 5–0 at halftime. WASPS looked to respond after the break, but Ratcliffe struck again early in the third quarter with a field goal. Hattie Shand then added her name to the scoresheet, converting a penalty corner to give the Wolves a seven-goal advantage heading into the final term. Despite a more competitive final quarter, Ratcliffe capped her extraordinary performance with a late penalty corner goal, sealing an emphatic victory for the Wolves.

UWA continued to press in the third quarter, with Mei Hill-Wilson converting a penalty corner to further extend the margin. They capped off a dominant performance late in the final term, as Prada Herron found the back of the net with a field goal, sealing a convincing victory.
