Round 10 delivered a mix of dominant victories, tight finishes and high-scoring draws, as teams across the league continued to jostle for ladder position in an action-packed weekend of hockey.

North Coast Raiders defeated by Victoria Park 1-5
Victoria Park have rebounded strongly from their recent loss to Fremantle Cockburn, securing a convincing four-goal victory over North Coast Raiders under lights at Perth Hockey Stadium on Friday, 19 June. The Panthers made an early impact, with Ben Taylor and Lachlan McLennan converting penalty corners in the opening quarter to set the tone. The Raiders responded in the second term through a field goal from Luke Williams, but Victoria Park maintained their composure to take a one-goal lead into halftime. In the third quarter, the Panthers restored their two-goal advantage when Kye Stirrat found the back of the net from open play. They then took full control in the final period, with Kurtis Scaini scoring from a penalty corner before adding another field goal to seal a dominant performance.

Mods-OGM defeated by Hale 0-4
A commanding first-half performance has delivered Hale their 10th win of the season, shutting down Mods-OGM at Guildford Grammar on Saturday, 20 June. Hale set the tone early, with Ian Grobbelaar converting a penalty corner just five minutes in before Marcus Jorgensen added a field goal to double the advantage by quarter time. The momentum continued into the second term as Jack Pearce struck from open play early, extending Hale’s lead. Despite Mods-OGM’s attempts to respond, the contest settled into a stalemate through the remainder of the second quarter and into the third. Hale eventually broke through again late in the final term, with Liam Flynn converting a penalty stroke to cap off a dominant display and seal the result.

Fremantle Cockburn drew Westside Wolves 3-3
Fremantle Cockburn and Westside Wolves played out a hard-fought 3–3 draw at Lakelands Hockey & Sporting Facility on Saturday, 20 June. The Magpies struck early, with Ben O’Grady converting a penalty corner in just the fourth minute. The Wolves responded quickly, however, as Tom Harvie levelled the scores with a penalty corner of his own to leave the sides tied at quarter time. The second term saw both teams locked in a midfield battle, with neither side able to break the deadlock. Fremantle Cockburn took control in the third quarter, as Rhys Angwin and Ehren Hazell both found the back of the net from open play to give the home side the advantage. The Wolves mounted a strong comeback in the final period, with Joe Welch converting a penalty corner before Harvie added his second, also from a set piece, to bring the scores level at three goals apiece and secure a share of the points.

WASPS drew UWA 5-5
WASPS and UWA produced an entertaining, high-scoring 5–5 draw at Perth Hockey Stadium on Saturday, 20 June. UWA opened the scoring early, with Diego Alonso Fouz finding the back of the net from open play just five minutes into the match. WASPS responded in emphatic fashion, as Charlie McIntyre, Jack Kruger and Daniel Rayney all struck field goals to hand their side the advantage before the end of the first quarter. UWA hit back in the second term, with Flynn Ogilvie scoring from open play before Lachlan Busiko converted a penalty corner to level the scores heading into halftime. WASPS regained the lead in the third quarter, courtesy of a field goal from Liam Mudd. The momentum continued to swing in the final period. Jack Leaversuch equalised for UWA with a penalty corner, before McIntyre restored WASPS’ advantage with another set-piece conversion. Busiko had the final say, however, scoring his second penalty corner goal of the match to secure a dramatic draw, with both teams finishing locked at five goals apiece.

YMCC defeated Reds 3-1
YMCC have retained top spot on the TeamStar Premier League Men’s ladder, defeating Reds by two goals at Lemnos Field on Sunday, 21 June. The ladder leaders made an early statement, with Sebastian Chandraratna opening the scoring from open play before Marshall Puzey converted a penalty corner to give YMCC a two-goal lead heading into quarter time. The contest tightened through the middle stages, with both sides locked in a stalemate across the second and third quarters as they battled for control and scoring opportunities proved limited. The deadlock was finally broken late in the match, with Brodee Foster putting Reds on the board via a field goal. YMCC responded immediately, however, with Puzey converting his second penalty corner of the game to seal the result and secure another victory.

Melville have continued to build strong momentum, claiming a three-goal win over Whitford at Troy Pickard Hockey Centre on Sunday, 21 June. The visitors made an immediate impact, with James Day converting a penalty corner in the opening minute. Whitford responded late in the first quarter, as Denver Farmer also struck from a penalty corner to level the scores at quarter time. A tightly contested second term saw both sides battle for control and penalty corner opportunities, but it was Melville who regained the lead, with Jacob Anderson finding the back of the net from open play. Melville took a firm grip on the contest in the third quarter, as Jesse Absolom and Jacob Woods added field goals to extend the advantage. Whitford mounted one final challenge, with Ben Stewart converting a penalty corner, but Melville had the last word, as Kyle Potter sealed the result with a field goal to cap off a polished performance.

Victoria Park have strengthened their push for top spot on the ladder, delivering a commanding six-goal victory over North Coast Raiders under lights at Perth Hockey Stadium on Friday, 19 June. The Panthers made a blistering start, generating multiple penalty corner opportunities in the opening quarter and capitalising early. Georgia Hiskins led the charge, scoring from a penalty corner before adding a field goal to give Victoria Park a two-goal advantage. As the Raiders searched for a response, the Panthers maintained control, with Hiskins completing her hat-trick via another penalty corner. Beatriz Monger-Molowny then extended the lead with a field goal to keep the momentum firmly with Victoria Park. The contest tightened during the third quarter, with both sides unable to add to the scoreboard. However, the Panthers reasserted their dominance in the final term, as Hiskins struck again from a penalty corner to claim her fourth goal of the night, before Lauren Yee added a field goal to cap off an emphatic performance.

Suburban Lions have held off a determined Hale outfit to secure a two-goal win in an entertaining clash under lights at Lemnos Field on Friday, 19 June. The Lions capitalised early, with Angela Chilwell and Georgina Dowd both finding the back of the net from open play in the first quarter to establish a strong lead. The contest then tightened through the second and third terms, as Hale pressed for a way back but were met with resolute defensive pressure from the Lions. Suburban Lions extended their advantage in the final quarter, with Jolie Sertorio converting a penalty corner to all but seal the result. Hale managed a late consolation through a penalty corner goal from Kirstin Dwyer, but the Lions remained in control to close out the victory.

Westside Wolves have continued their push towards the top of the ladder, claiming a convincing three-goal victory over Fremantle Cockburn at Lakelands Hockey & Sporting Facility on Saturday, 27 June. The opening quarter featured end-to-end action, but it was the Wolves who broke through first, with Madi Ratcliffe scoring a field goal to give her side the early advantage. Fremantle Cockburn searched for a response in the second term, however the Wolves stood strong and extended their lead as Madison Naish converted a penalty corner. The Wolves asserted their dominance early in the third quarter, with Ratcliffe adding her second field goal of the match before Jessica Freedman also found the back of the net to stretch the margin. While the Magpies managed a late consolation through a penalty corner goal from Mackenzie Brewer, the Wolves remained in control to comfortably seal the result.

UWA have continued to build momentum, claiming a two-goal win over WASPS at Perth Hockey Stadium on Saturday, 20 June. The first half was tightly contested, with both sides sharing possession and creating opportunities, but neither able to find the breakthrough. It wasn’t until late in the third quarter that the deadlock was finally broken, as Jacqui Morgan scored from open play to give UWA the lead. WASPS pushed hard to respond, but UWA held their ground and struck again late in the final term, with Saysha Pillay converting a penalty corner to secure the result and cap off a disciplined performance.

Despite their efforts, neither team was able to break the deadlock before halftime. The contest finally opened up in the third quarter, with Melville striking first as Hannah Carmody converted a penalty corner. Whitford responded late in the term, with Penny Squibb calmly converting a penalty stroke to level the scores. The match tightened once again in the final quarter, with both sides unable to find a winner, resulting in a well-contested draw.
