YMCC defeated Mods-OGM 5-0
YMCC strengthened their position at the top of the TeamStar Premier League Men’s ladder with a commanding five-goal victory over Mods-OGM at Lemnos Field on Saturday, 1 August. The ladder leaders made an early statement, opening the scoring just four minutes into the match when Cooper Burns successfully converted a penalty stroke. Mods-OGM looked to respond, but YMCC’s defence remained resolute to preserve the advantage through the remainder of the opening quarter. YMCC carried that momentum into the second term, extending their lead through field goals from Koby Ashford and Daykin Stanger. The home side continued to apply pressure and created several penalty corner opportunities, but Mods-OGM’s defence stood firm to limit the damage and keep the contest within reach heading into halftime. The third quarter proved more evenly contested, with both sides enjoying periods of possession and battling for control. Melville continued their impressive run of form with a hard-fought victory over Reds in a high-scoring contest at Aquinas College on Saturday, 1 August. The opening quarter was closely contested, but it was Melville who struck first when Jacob Anderson found the back of the net with a field goal. Reds searched for an immediate response, however Melville’s defence held firm to take a one-goal advantage into the first break. Melville extended that lead early in the second quarter when Dylan Downey converted a penalty corner. Reds responded strongly, with Matthew Allocca reducing the margin through a field goal before Adrian Lockley levelled the scores with another field goal, ensuring the teams went into the second half locked in an entertaining battle. The momentum continued to swing in the third term. Ben Staines restored Melville’s lead with a field goal, but Reds again found an answer as Andrew Faulds scored from open play to equalise. Reds then took their first lead of the afternoon when Tarrant Haami-Jones converted a penalty corner, setting up a thrilling final quarter. With the match on the line, Melville produced a composed finish to regain control. The opening quarter was closely contested, with both sides enjoying periods of possession and creating attacking opportunities. WASPS eventually found the breakthrough just before the first break when James Shackley scored a field goal to give his side the lead. That momentum carried into the second term as WASPS struck early through Shaun Shackley, who added a field goal to extend the advantage. The Raiders looked to work their way back into the contest and tightened proceedings through the middle stages of the quarter, but WASPS landed another crucial blow just before halftime when Brandon Gibbs found the back of the net from open play. The Raiders responded after the main break, with Connor Irwin converting a penalty corner to reduce the margin and provide the visitors with a spark. The Lions responded by lifting their intensity, with the contest quickly developing into a tightly fought battle as both sides looked to gain the upper hand. The evenly matched affair continued through the second quarter, with end-to-end action and few clear opportunities separating the teams. The deadlock was finally broken in the third term when Sari Wooton converted a penalty corner to bring the Lions level.
