Hale defeated by YMCC 1-4
YMCC have further strengthened their hold on top spot in the TeamStar Premier League Men’s competition, defeating Hale by three goals under lights at Hale Hockey Club on Friday, 7 August. Hale started strongly and looked intent on taking control early, earning several penalty corner opportunities in the opening quarter. Despite YMCC’s resolute defence, the home side eventually broke through when Liam Flynn found the back of the net with a field goal to give Hale a narrow lead at the first break. The second quarter saw Hale continue to press forward in search of another goal, creating a number of penalty corner chances. However, YMCC responded brilliantly, with Cooper Burns producing two field goals to turn the contest on its head and hand the visitors a 2-1 advantage heading into half-time. The intensity remained high throughout the third quarter as both sides traded possession and scoring opportunities. In a tightly contested period, Burns once again proved decisive, converting a penalty corner to extend YMCC’s lead and complete his hat-trick. Hale continued to push for a way back into the match during the final term, but YMCC remained composed under pressure. Melville defeated WASPS 3-1
Melville have continued their strong run of form, defeating WASPS by two goals at Melville Toyota Stadium on Saturday, 8 August. The home side made an immediate impact, with Jacob Anderson opening the scoring just four minutes into the contest with a field goal. Jesse Absolom soon added a second from open play as Melville surged into an early lead. WASPS responded through Charlie McIntyre, whose field goal reduced the margin, but Melville held their advantage to lead at quarter time. It was the Magpies who made the first breakthrough, with Rhys Angwin finding the back of the net from open play to give Fremantle Cockburn a 1-0 lead at the first break. The visitors built on that momentum early in the second quarter. Diarmid Chappell struck with a field goal before Ehren Hazell converted a penalty corner to extend the advantage. Hale looked to hit back through a penalty corner opportunity of their own, but YMCC’s defence stood strong to preserve the one-goal advantage at quarter time. YMCC carried that momentum into the second quarter, where Sofie Clementi found the back of the net with a field goal to double the lead. Despite Hale continuing to generate penalty corner chances, YMCC remained disciplined and resolute in defence to keep their opponents scoreless heading into the main break.
