Hale defeated by UWA 0-3
A dominant final-quarter surge saw UWA respond to their recent loss to YMCC, ending Hale’s undefeated streak with a three-goal victory at Hale Hockey Club on Friday 1 May. Both sides started with attacking intent, creating early chances through penalty corners. However, possession was fiercely contested and defensive discipline from both teams kept scoring opportunities to a minimum, setting up a tightly fought and entertaining contest. The deadlock was finally broken in the final quarter when Frank Main opened the scoring for UWA with a field goal in the 46th minute. As Hale pushed to respond through a series of penalty corners, UWA struck again, with Cam Geddes converting from a penalty corner to extend the lead. Hale continued to press in search of a comeback, but UWA sealed the result when Harry Golding added a late field goal, securing a well-earned victory and handing Hale their first loss of the season.

A hat-trick from Joel Rintala saw Westside Wolves extend their undefeated streak for another week, claiming a two-goal victory over Victoria Park at Lemnos Field on Saturday 2 May. The Wolves wasted no time asserting their dominance, with Rintala opening the scoring via a field goal in the third minute before doubling the lead five minutes later from a penalty corner to give the Wolves a 2–0 advantage by quarter time. As the Wolves looked to build on their lead through a series of penalty corners, Victoria Park lifted the intensity, applying sustained pressure to keep the margin at two goals heading into the main break. The Panthers struck early after half time, with Ky Willott converting a penalty corner to reduce the deficit in the third quarter. In an evenly contested term, the Wolves responded once more, with Rintala completing his hat-trick from another penalty corner to restore the two-goal buffer at the final change. The final quarter developed into a tight battle for possession, but the Wolves’ defence held firm, allowing them to see out the match and secure the win.

An evenly matched opening quarter set the tone for the contest before WASPS broke the deadlock, with Callum Brown-Lea converting a penalty corner to give the visitors a narrow lead heading into half time. The tight battle continued after the main break as the Raiders mounted a response, with Connor Irwin scoring from a penalty stroke in the third quarter to level the scores by three-quarter time. Both sides traded possession in an intense final stanza until WASPS regained the lead, with Benjamin Woodruff converting a penalty corner. Reds bounced back from their recent loss to Fremantle Cockburn, securing a two-goal victory over Melville at Melville Toyota Stadium on Saturday 2 May. The opening quarter saw both sides trade possession as they searched for an early breakthrough. It was Melville who struck first, with Ben Staines scoring a field goal a few minutes before half time to give the home side the lead. Reds responded strongly after the main break, turning the contest in the third quarter. Jeremy Hayward converted a penalty corner to level the scores before Brodee Foster followed suit, also scoring from a penalty corner to put Reds ahead by three-quarter time. The final quarter remained fiercely contested, but Foster proved decisive once more, adding a second goal via a field goal to secure the win and cap off a strong comeback performance for Reds.

A six-goal haul from Cooper Burns powered YMCC to another dominant victory, extending their undefeated streak with an emphatic win over Mods-OGM at Guildford Grammar on Sunday 3 May. Mods-OGM made a fast start, with Brett Stevens opening the scoring via a field goal in just the second minute. YMCC responded promptly, as Burns converted a penalty corner to level the scores. Mods-OGM regained the lead soon after, with Luke Nillsen scoring from a penalty stroke to give his side a 2–1 advantage at quarter time. YMCC wasted no time drawing level in the second quarter, with Burns again finding the back of the net from a penalty corner. The contest remained tightly fought for the remainder of the half, with both sides locked at two-all heading into the main break. The third quarter proved decisive as YMCC took control of the match. Burns converted a penalty stroke in the 34th minute before adding a field goal just a minute later to swing the momentum firmly in YMCC’s favour. YMCC continued to dominate in the final quarter, with Burns completing his six-goal performance by scoring twice more from penalty corners. Hamish Adamson capped off the display with a late field goal in the final minute, sealing a comprehensive victory.

As the hockey community came together to honour the late Lizzie Watkins and raise awareness around organ donation, WASPS edged out North Coast Raiders in a narrow victory at Troy Pickard Hockey Centre on Saturday 2 May. Following an even opening period, WASPS struck first when Camryn Tidy converted a penalty corner to give the visitors a one-goal advantage at quarter time. What followed was a tight and evenly contested battle through the second and third quarters, with both sides trading possession and WASPS managing to maintain their slender lead under sustained pressure. The deadlock was finally broken in the final quarter when the Raiders found an equaliser through a penalty corner goal from Jessica Tuff. However, WASPS responded almost immediately, with Tidy once again converting from a penalty corner to restore the lead and secure the win for her side.
