YMCC defeated WASPS 5-3
YMCC have extended their undefeated run, holding off a determined WASPS side to secure a 5–3 victory in a high-scoring clash at Lemnos Field on Saturday 9 May. WASPS made a strong start, opening the scoring early through Callum Brown-Lea, who found the net with a field goal in the fifth minute. YMCC responded quickly, with Hamish Adamson levelling the scores before the end of the first quarter. The second term followed a similar pattern, as WASPS regained the lead through a field goal from Craig Marais. YMCC again answered through Daykin Stanger, but Marais struck once more late in the quarter to hand WASPS a narrow advantage heading into halftime. After an evenly contested third quarter where both sides battled for control, YMCC took charge in the final term. Cooper Burns sparked the comeback, equalising from a penalty corner before putting his side ahead with a successful penalty stroke minutes later. The opening quarter was tightly contested, with both sides sharing possession and creating chances, but neither could find the breakthrough. The deadlock was finally broken in the second quarter when Jeremy Hayward converted a penalty corner in the 20th minute, before adding a second from another set piece moments later to give Reds a clear advantage. Whitford pushed to respond in the third quarter, applying pressure and limiting Reds’ opportunities with a disciplined defensive effort. Despite the improved control, neither side was able to add to the scoreboard during the term. Reds regained momentum in the final quarter, extending their lead through a penalty corner goal from Brodee Foster. The visitors made an early impact, with Nathan Ephraums opening the scoring in the sixth minute. UWA soon doubled their advantage, as Cam Geddes converted a penalty corner to give his side a 2–0 lead by the end of the first quarter. UWA maintained control throughout the second term, extending their lead through field goals from Nathan Czinner and Flynn Ogilvie. However, Fremantle Cockburn responded late in the half, with Ehren Hazell and Rhys Angwin striking in quick succession to reduce the margin to two goals heading into halftime. The contest intensified in the second half, as both sides battled to create opportunities. The Magpies’ persistence paid off late in the third quarter when Ben O’Grady converted a penalty corner to bring the margin back to one goal. Hale have responded strongly to their recent loss to UWA, producing a commanding performance against Victoria Park at Perth Hockey Stadium on Sunday 10 May. The visitors wasted little time asserting control, with Charlie Johnston opening the scoring in the fourth minute before Marcus Jorgensen added a second shortly after, handing Hale a two-goal advantage at the first break. Hale continued to dictate the tempo in the second quarter as Victoria Park searched for a way back into the contest. Josh Bowen extended the lead with a field goal in the 22nd minute, then added a second later in the term from a penalty corner to double the margin heading into halftime. Despite Victoria Park’s efforts to generate opportunities in the third quarter, Hale remained composed and in control. Jack Faulkner added to the tally with a field goal, further strengthening their hold on the match. It was the Wolves who struck first in the second term, as Tom Harvie converted a penalty corner to give his side the lead. Mods-OGM responded before halftime, with Brett Stevens finding the back of the net to level the scores heading into the main break. Fremantle Cockburn defeated Reds 4-3
Fremantle Cockburn have rebounded from their recent loss to Whitford, edging out Reds by a single goal to claim the inaugural Lee Abbott Trophy at Lakelands Hockey & Sporting Facility. Originally scheduled for Anzac Day, the match was postponed to Wednesday 6 May due to several Reds players competing at the Hockey Australia Under 21 National Championships. Despite the disruption, Reds’ young side started strongly, with Bella Connelly opening the scoring in the 11th minute to give the visitors an early lead. The second quarter lifted in intensity as Connelly struck again from a penalty corner. However, Fremantle Cockburn responded swiftly—Summer Tancred levelled the scores before Jenna-Rae McIntyre netted twice in quick succession to give the Magpies a halftime advantage. Both sides battled for control in the third quarter, and Connelly completed her hat-trick late in the period to bring Reds back level. The final term delivered a tense finish, with Eunyoung Kim finding the decisive goal for the Magpies. Despite Fremantle Cockburn’s efforts to respond, UWA’s defence held firm to maintain their advantage at the first break. UWA built on that momentum in the second term, controlling possession and limiting the Magpies’ opportunities. Herron added her second field goal of the match, while Saysha Pillay also got on the scoresheet to extend the lead to three goals heading into halftime. The third quarter saw UWA take complete control of the contest.
