Thundersticks ready to rumble against up-and-coming stars
Published Thu 11 Nov 2021
It will be a feast of hockey on Saturday 20 November at Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University, with the men’s and women’s Perth Thundersticks invitational squads facing off against their Under-21 State Team counterparts.
The two matches will provide Perth Thundersticks players and WA Under-21s squads an opportunity to compete in high-quality hockey matches in lieu of cancelled National Junior Championships and the Sultana Bran Hockey One season.
Hockey fans will be afforded the opportunity to see our states most elite hockey players battle it out, up close and personal, in what is set to be a hot contest with players eager to please due to limited opportunities.
The fixtures will coincide with the second day of the Future Thundersticks Classic, a tournament that provides high-level tournament competition play for WA’s most talented young players aged 12 to 14.
The second day of Future Thundersticks action will see the girls hit the field before the women’s Thundersticks v Under-21s match, with the Future Thundersticks boys to follow and their men’s Thundersticks counterparts thereafter.
The girls fixtures features a rivalry match between the Storm and Lightning (U13s) teams as well as a match-up between the evenly balance Breakers and Outbacks (14s Academy) teams.
The last time the Storm and Lightning played it ended in a 1-1 draw, whilst the Outbacks will be looking to improve after their 2-0 loss to the Breakers.
The boys Future Thundersticks Classic fixtures will curtain raise the men’s Thundersticks v Under-21s match, with two massive fixtures in store for fans.
The fixtures on PHS-1 will see the lightning renew their rivalry with the Storm. In a much anticipated fixture, the Highlanders (14s Academy) will look to turn the tables on the Suns following a narrow 3-2 defeat last Sunday.
The fixtures provide a unique, yet exciting proposition of our current hockey stars nurturing the next generation to come out of WA, whilst also providing our Future Thundersticks the opportunity to connect with their hockey heroes.
Entry to both fixtures, including all Future Thundersticks Classic fixtures, is free – watch the Future Thundersticks Classic LIVE through The West Australian here.
