Triple treat for UWA great
Published Thu 21 Apr 2022
There’s not much University of Western Australia’s Chris Bausor hasn’t achieved in his career – bar notching 300 Premier League matches, which he’ll achieve this weekend.
The two-time Olympians Medallist has also won two Premier League titles, four championships in the Australian Hockey League (now known as the Sultana Bran Hockey One League) and represented his country.
“I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have a long career – and the highlights for me are definitely the team successes,” the 32-year-old says.
“Being part of the Thundersticks winning teams in 2008 and 2009 was particularly special, as were the UWA Premierships in 2007 and 2017.”
The former Australian Kookaburra, involved in the Azlan Shah tournament in Malaysia in 2013, however, has great memories of playing hockey at all levels throughout WA and has set some very attainable future goals.
“Joining the UWA team at the tail end of a very successful era was amazing as a youngster – the 2007 premiership was incredible to be part of,” Bausor says.
“Arguably one of the best memories, though, is the under-13s Bunbury Carnival – always a very special tournament for me. We had so much fun every year over the June long weekend and had some amazing rivalries with Wolves and Bunbury over the years.
“I’ll be happy though to just keep playing and enjoying hockey at any level. I think I can keep going for at least another 100 games!”
Bausor celebrates the 300-game milestone this weekend, when his UWA side meet Hale at UWA on Saturday afternoon.
"I’ve had the pleasure of playing alongside Chris at the end of my playing career and start of my Premier League coaching career many years ago," Woodhouse says.
"I appointed him as my Captain as he was the clear choice to take the reins bringing our youthful juniors he played years alongside with while having great respect from the senior players.
"His commitment to the club has been outstanding and we are so delighted for him to reach the unbelievable milestone.
"On behalf of the UWA Hockey club, we wish him a massive congratulations and look forward to seeing him play as long as he wishes. This club is not just about Premier League. It’s about the community that surrounds it and the life long friends you create.
"Best of luck for Saturday, you have done us proud on so many occasions."
Clubs from around the state are invited to send player milestones to Hockey WA - send us your details, with a minimum of two weeks' notice, to media@hockeywa.org.au
