Unforgettable matches to headline Anzac Round

Published Wed 24 Apr 2024

Stiles Electrical Premier League teams will take the field in unforgettable matches on ANZAC Day to commemorate and remember the fallen soldiers and veterans who have served our country on the front-line.

In the first of the themed rounds for the 2024 season, three top division matches will be played on Thursday 25 April, acknowledging Anzac Day.

It will all kick off with the traditional double-header between Victoria Park Xavier Panthers and WASPS at Perth Hockey Stadium, with the Women’s match taking place at 2.00pm, followed by the Men’s match at 4.00pm.

An Anzac Service will be held at 3.30pm, in between the two matches.

In the Women’s match, Victoria Park goes into the match off the back of a 2-1 victory over Reds last weekend, while WASPS are looking to open their scoring account after being held scoreless in their first three games.

The two sides last met at Perth Hockey Stadium in July, where Victoria Park prevailed 2-1 in a tight contest.

In the Men’s match, both Victoria Park and WASPS go into the match looking to continue their respective undefeated streaks, after the Panthers defeated Reds 6-3 last weekend while WASPS drew level with UWA 3-3.

Last time they met in July, neither team could be separated with the match ending in a 1-1 draw.

Both matches will be broadcast live on Streamer.

The third of the traditional Anzac matches will take place at Lakelands Hockey & Sporting Facility, where Fremantle Cockburn host Reds at 4.30pm.

The Magpies are looking to bounce back from their 1-0 loss to Westside Wolves, while Reds are hoping to achieve their first win since round one after falling short to Victoria Park 3-6.

Fremantle Cockburn and Reds last met at Lakelands Hockey & Sporting Facility in July, where Reds defeated the Magpies 3-1.

The elite hockey action continues from Friday 26 April where North Coast Raiders host a double-header against UWA at Perth Hockey Stadium starting with the Men’s match at 7.00pm, followed by the Women’s match at 8.30pm.

Saturday 27 April will see Mods-OGM host Westside Wolves at Guildford Grammar School at 3.30pm, while Suburban Lions will go up against Reds at 3.30pm at Lemnos Field.

Whitford will be in action at Troy Pickard Hockey Centre on Sunday 28 April, where their Women’s team will face off against Hale at 2.30pm, while the Men’s team will face Melville at 4.00pm.
