Day 5 - Monday 11 April

The WA Gold women's side rounded off their tournament run with a 2-1 win over New South Wales Blue.

Jessica Freedman and Eliza Swain were the scorers for WA in the 13th and 28th minutes.

The WA Gold women's side are now set to face Queensland Maroon in the semifinals on Wednesday 13 April, with hopes to bring home the victory and a chance for gold.

The WA Black women's side sufferred a 3-0 defeat to Victoria Development and will now face off against the ACT to round off this year's competition.

The WA Gold men's continue to impress at the top of the Pool B standings after a 2-0 victory over Tasmania.

WA Gold took the lead early with Patrick Andrew and Mitchell McGrath finding goal in quick succession in the seventh and eight minutes respectively.

The WA Gold men's now face a crucial match up against Queensland Maroon in the semifinals, with a win taking them to the gold medal match.

The WA Black men's side unfortunately missed out on a semifinals position after finishing third - a massive effort for the boys in a strong pool.

WA Black will now face New South Wales Blue in their final match of the tournament on Wednesday 13 April.

Day 4 - Sunday 10 April

The WA Gold women's side remain in the hunt to challenge for gold after securing a 2-2 draw against Victoria.

Megan McCaffrey added to her goal tally, opening the scoring in the seventh minute to take her goal score tally to five four the tournament.

Gold's Jessica Freedman extended Gold's lead to 2-0 with a goal of her own in the 13th minute - Victoria replied with two goals in the second half to bring the sides level.

The WA Black side unfortunately suffered a 5-0 loss to New South Wales and sit at fifth in the standings.

The men's WA Gold continued their hot run with a 3-2 victory over Victoria and look likely to challenge for gold at the top of the standings.

WA Black men's also registered a 3-1 vicotry over Victoria Development, which gives them a chance to challenge in Pool A, sitting at third on the standings.

Day 3 - Friday 8 April

WA Gold women's suffered their first loss of the tournament in a narrow 3-0 loss to Queensland Gold.

WA Gold still sit at third on the standings and look to be a likely challenger at the top end across the tournament.

The women's Black recorded their first win of the tournament in a strong 2-0 victory over Northern territory.

Ivy Foyster opened the scoring in the 21st minute, with Harper Newman adding to WA's tally through a penalty corner in the 37th minute to secure the victory.

The WA Gold men's side sit at the top of the standings after three days of action.

In one of the more dominant performance of the competition thus far, WA gold men's secured a 10-0 victory over Northern Territory.

Seven individual goalscorers across the team showcased the strength of the side.

The men's WA Black side went up against Queensland Maroon, the leaders of Pool B and unfortunately suffered a 6-1 loss - Fletcher Wetherell was the lone scorer in the 25th minute.

Day 2 - Thursday 7 April

In a strong Pool B in the women's, WA Gold recorded a 7-2 drubbing over South Australia on the second day of the U18s National Championships.

Gold's Megan McCaffret continues to dominate in front of goal, scoring a hat-trick with her final goal of the day coming in the 59th minute to round out the match.

The women's WA Black side suffered a 5-0 defeat to Tasmania but will look to bounce back against the Northern Territoy on day three.

The men's WA Gold side recorded a closely fought 2-2 draw against NSW Blue on the second day of action.

WA scored the first two goals of the match through Charlie McIntyre and Ian Grobbelaar in the 22nd and 24th minutes respectively but NSW were able to pull the score back in the final ten minutes to level the sides at the buzzer.

The men's WA Black recorded a 2-0 victory over ACT in a strong outing for the side.

The victory sees the Black side record their first victory of the tournament, an added boost at the midway point.

DAY 1 - WEDNESDAY 6 APRIL

The Hockey Australia Under-18 National Championships has commenced in Cairns with our WA under-18s flying the flag for the state, with all four teams completing their first matches of the series.

The WA Gold women’s side has got off to a red-hot start to the tournament, defeating ACT 8-2 in their first match of the series.

Jessica Freedman starred for the side, scoring a hat-trick in the opening match – Matilda Banfield, coming off a strong performance across the Ric Charlesworth Classic, also scored the opening goal to give WA Gold the hot start.

In the match, there were six individual goal scorers for WA Gold, showcasing the strength of the squad, as well as highlighting a strong team effort across the field.

In the men’s competition, the men’s Gold side also got off to a great start, securing a 4-0 victory over Queensland Gold.

Brodie Hiskins, Charlie McIntyre, Patrick Andrew and Ian Grobbelaar all scored in the 14th, 20th, 27th and 43rd minutes respectively,

The two WA Black sides unfortunately suffered 3-0 and 9-0 defeats in the men’s and women’s respectively but both sides get to have another crack at victory today.
