Western Hockey Masters Gala Day celebrates resilience and the power of modern medicine

This Saturday, 6 December, Perth Hockey Stadium will come alive as the Western Hockey Masters Gala Day showcases the incredible strength of the human spirit and the benefits of staying active.

Across both turfs, 10 Masters teams will compete in five thrilling matches, highlighting stories of recovery, resilience, and determination.

Many of the athletes taking part have faced serious health challenges or undergone major surgeries.

Their participation is a testament to the life-changing impact of modern medicine and the importance of rehabilitation and an active lifestyle.

Highlights of the Gala Day

• The Bionic Cup
  Now in its ninth year, this iconic match features players with artificial hips and knees. It’s a powerful demonstration that with quality surgery and proper rehabilitation, we can continue to lead active, fulfilling lives.
• The Survivors Cup
  Cancer survivors take on players who have overcome major heart conditions, including triple bypass surgeries. This game celebrates the combined strength of modern medicine, and the human will to overcome adversity.
• Ladies Matches
  Two inspiring teams—Nice n Kneesy and Breast Friends—face off, each featuring players who have benefited from medical breakthroughs.
• The OBE Cup
  Watch men over 80 years old showcase their skills and experience, proving that age is no barrier to enjoying sport and camaraderie.
• The Laurie Packham Challenge Cup
  Debuting this year, this match for women over 70 emphasizes the lifelong benefits of staying active and connected through sport.

Western Hockey Masters President, Tony Jones, expressed his gratitude to the event’s supporters.
