Hockey WA is thrilled to announce nominations to represent our great state in one of the most anticipated youth hockey tournaments of the year are now open!

The KMSB Youth International Gryphon Cup will be returning to Perth this November, bringing together top-tier young talent from across Western Australia, Australia and beyond.

Nominations are open for athletes hoping to represent the KMSB Waves, with one Boys and one Girls team set to be selected.

Due to an increase in Asian and interstate teams entering the competition, the PTX Suns will not compete in this year’s YIGC.

Eligibility Information

Nominations are open to boys and girls strictly born after 1 January 2009. Please see below further information regarding athlete eligibility.

Perth-Based Players

Only athletes who have participated in a Perth Thundersticks Academy session in 2025 are eligible to nominate for these trials. This includes athletes participating in the Emerging Thundersticks program.

Registrations are open for the following clinics that will enable athletes to qualify for nomination if they have not already participated in a PTX Academy session this year:

*Please visit the links above for more information. Please note that registering for the above clinics does not automatically nominate players for the KMSB YIGC trials. Athletes must submit a separate nomination to be considered for selection.

Regionally-Based Players

Regional athletes are welcome to trial for the Perth-based KMSB Waves. However, separate trials will be held later in the year (i.e. September/October) for the Outbacks teams (i.e. one boys’ and one girls’ team), representing regional WA.

WA Under-16 State Team Players

All WA Under-16 State Team players do not need to nominate as they will compete in their respective WA State teams. Regionally-based players within those teams may opt to play for the Outbacks but are not obligated to do so.

WA Under-16 State Train-On Athletes

Train-On athletes may be elevated to the State teams if spots become available. If not, they may trial for the KMSB Waves or the Outbacks. Hockey WA recommends these athletes to register for KMSB Waves trials.
